Description
Wylam Brewery was set up in a disused dairy on a farm near Heddon on the Wall in May 2000 by John Boyle and Robin Leighton driven by their passion for real ale. The brewery grew rapidly on the strength of the quality of its ales, winning awards at festivals around the UK. They outgrew the original 1000L plant in 2006 and brought on-stream a new 3500L plant in August in a bespoke barn conversion. Since then they have enjoyed continued strong growth. In Summer 2016, the brewery moved to its current location at the same time expanding to a 30BBL plant.

Can (from Mikkeller shop). Hazy orangeish golden colour with a mediumsized foamy white head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is biscuity, some tropical fruits, mild coconuts as well as some toffee tones. Flavour is rather evident coconut with some floral, fruity and mild toffeeish tones to it. A bit strange, but actually rather enjoyable experiment.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival, 7 Sep 2024) Pale amber colour, slightly hazy, with no head. Fruity, malty, vinous nose with apricots, orange peel, caramel and dried fruit. Fruity, malty taste with notes of dried fruit, apricots, orange peel, caramel and a gentle, slightly spicy, bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. Rich, tasty and warming. Very nice.

Keg at Tap Apothecary, Banbury in the company of Scott and Dadger, Saturday 30th November 2024. Pours golden but very with a slim white head. There is a citrus aroma, it's hoppy, this is also apparent in the mouth with a touch of tropical fruit intertwined with sweet orange and pink grapefruit, very nice.

440ml can from The House of Trembling Madness. A hazy golden/yellow coloured pour with a thinnish white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, orange, grapefruit, melon, tropical fruit taste and aroma. Really tasty IPA from Wylam. I drank this in a matter of minutes.

Can from The Beerhive. Hazy golden body with a white head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of peach, orange and lemon sponge. Flavour of grapefruit, Thai basil and watermelon. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. For me, Wylam’s IPAs are the UK’s best - each one has a delicious watermelon vibe. I love Wylam’s hoppy beers.
