Description
Borough Brewery, brewing in Tonmawr but with its heart in the Borough Arms Freehouse. Borough Brewery is an expanding microbrewery, starting with a small 2.5bbl plant in the beer garden of their pub ''The Borough Arms'' in 2014 (previously home to Eagles Bush Brewery). The brewery relocated in 2016 to Unit 5 Tonmawr Business Park in Tonmawr and upgraded to a 10BBL plant. In Summer 2019, following a change of ownership, brewing returned to just the pub and the brewery at Tonmawr closed.

Borough Brewery is a family run business in which brews up to 11 different beers. The beers are of a quality that from such small beginnings they supply their ales all over Wales and beyond. The brewery also produce borough brewery trade standa range of bottle our ales for sale at country fares and wholesale outlets, ensuring a wider audience can enjoy their most quaffable ales.

Cask (gravity) @ 32th Pigs Ear Beer and Cider Festival 2015, at The Round Chapel in Hackney, London, England. [ As Borough (Neath) Bit ’O’ Sweet ].Clear medium orange yellow colour with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt. Flavor is moderate sweet with a long duration, pale malt, UK yeast, smoke - rubber notes. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20151202] 6-3-5-3-10

From cask at the Dove, Ipswich. Black beer with a tan colour head. Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate with plum notes. Quite dry, fairly high level of roasted bitterness and low level of sweetness. Medium body, but texture a little on the thin side. Finish is dry roasted with a bittersweet edge. A decent porter.

[ As Borough (Neath) Pithead Porter ].Clear dark brown color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, dark roasted, light burnt, dark malt. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, malt bitter, burnt, dark roasted, roasted, ash. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20160219]

[ As Borough (Neath) Full Blast ].Clear medium orange yellow color with a average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white - silver head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, fruity malt, light to moderate hoppy, fruity. Initial flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter, finish flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, pale malt, fruity malt, fruity, hop bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20160217]

Cask at the 2016 NWAF, The Roundhouse, Derby. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Aromas of cocoa, coffee, dark chocolate and a hint of blackcurrant. Flavours of woodsmoke, chocolate and dark roast coffee. Tasty.

Gravicask shared with Finn at Camra’s NWAF. Deep dark brown body. Filmy layer, fair lacing. Brown malty smell, hints of coffee. Black malts, dried fruits and berries to the flavour character. Medium bodied. Nice (Derby 17.02.2016).

Gravicask at Camra’s NWAF. Shared with Finn. Missing head, spotty lacing, clear golden body. Floral fruity smell. Similar floral flavours joined by dried fruits. A lightly bitter touch to the finish. Straightforward (Derby 17.02.2016)

Tasting at Mr Smith’s Skyflat. Thanks to Dan. Hazy gold - amber beer, thin cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and has reasonable fine carbonation. Dry pale malts. Very light citrus. Light floral bitterness. Light bitterish finish. Fine.
