Bottle from East Derry Solid black color with a huge frothy mocha head that persists. Berry and roast on the nose with bits of earth and a touch of ethanol. The flavor is chocolate covered berries up front some earthy light alcohol notes midway through and a bit of earth hop licorice and roasty bitterness to finish. Somewhat bitter finish clashes a little with the fruit and chocolate up front. Pretty good beer.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. As Virginia Brewery Prototype Enjoy By 12.25.16 Unfiltered IPA. Clear golden orange with a finger of off-white head. Aromas of grapefruit citrus, floral notes, light malt, hop oils, light tropical fruit, some garlic, a little biscuit. Tastes of grapefruit citrus, floral notes, hop oils, some tropical fruit, garlic, touch of booze. Medium body with a dry and warm finish. The alcohol sneaks up on you. Not quite as good as I remember the West Coast brewed version being but still nice.

4oz draft pour at Lost Dog Cafe Alexandria. Poured a relatively hazy golden yellow-orange color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was strong resin notes, with a very pleasant citrus orange character. Light citrus, mostly pine notes. Really juicy. Alcohol is really well masked.

Tastes of grapefruit and lemon citrus, floral notes, nice tropical fruit. Medium body with a dry finish. Liked this one a bit more compared to the CA brewed Stone IPA side by side. 8/4/8/4/16
