Zythos Bierfestival 2012, Leuven, Belgium. Pours murky mahogany with copper edges and full tan head of foam. The aroma is straight up coffee like Folgers coffee and something a little richer. The taste is pretty nice with fairly rich coffee notes rolling into espresso notes, some nuttiness and a bit of toffee like goodness that enhances the experience. This has several layers of coffee and various malt and toffee nuances that creates a rather yummy like harmony.

Draught@Tuulensuu, Tampere. Murky brown colour with a mediumsized beige head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, berries, yeast and mild spices. Flavour is rather similar with some mild alcohol as well. Tonguetickling carbonation.

Bottle. An unclear one, golden in color and with a dense, two-finger off-white head. Lighly spiced and quite pleasantly hopped aroma with pale malts, sugar and some alcohol notes. Full-bodied and nicely carbonated, quite dry. Pale malts, sugar notes, a spiced herbal hoppyness, some bitterness and a little warming touch in the flavor. Lasting dry, bitter finish. Certainly a tripel I could have a few of. 120516

Black colour, tan head. Aroma of coffee and malts, loads of coffee, light hops. Flavour of coffee, light sweetness, quite light and thin, much less than expected from the nose. Finish coffee.
One of the best Broeder Jacob beers I’ve tasted to date.

(bottle, 33cl) Slightly hazy, brown colour with a beige and loose foamy head. Slightly sugary and dusty roast-malty aroma with molassy notes of Bavarian Blockmalz bonbons. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Roasty malt-character with notes of burnt candy, caramel; sweet and slightly sticky malty finish with a well-masked alcoholic level. 03.IV.12

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden to light-amber colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Bready (cara-)malty aroma with notes of candy-sugar, a rather delicately fruity touch and minor spicy accents. Moderately sweet flavour, medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Slightly soapy malty taste with hints of caramel and spicy notes of anise and lavender; slightly sugary and mildly fruity finish with notes of warming alcohol. Not directly my cup of tea. 27.III.12

Draft @ ZBF’12.
