Description
Sixpoint was founded in 2004 (we like to say it was born at the dawn of civilization, though that’s a story for another time…) in the rough and tumble neighborhood of Red Hook, BKLYN. It was essentially a cult brewery — draft-only, mysterious, cryptic…
In 2010 we released our canned creations, and have been tweaking, improving, and releasing new formulations ever since. Then in May of 2017, we took our biggest step forward to date, releasing all of our ales raw and unfiltered, and simultaneously incorporating new and incredible raw materials obtained over years of sourcing.
In November 2018, Sixpoint was acquired by Artisanal Brewing Ventures.

From tap at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam. Aroma is fruity hops with tropical fruits, grapefruit, light pine resin with mild citrussy notes. Flavour is light sweet with a bitter finish. Body is medium. Proper fruity hoppy bitter Session IPA.

12 ounce can from Total Wine Appleton, 9/29/24. Hazy orange, medium white head, average retention. Aroma of mango, tropical fruit, pale malt. Taste is tropical fruit, chlorine, citrus, pineapple. Weird chemical note. Odd.

Notes from 1/10/2009. On cask at New Beer today. Having my way with a jug of it at the moment. Filled completely to the top, I go easy into my rounded pint glass. Black & brown & very still. Head was small to begin with at the store, got about a third of quickly dispersing dark tan head. Sniffing along... sweet roast, woody-ness, baking flour, a bit of a citric tone right at the end. First off, just a trace of carbonation left after getting filled barely four hours ago. Though it adds to the already smooth creaminess that the oatmeal provides. Taste is milder in coffee/roast flavors then it was fresh out the cask. A delicate bready/sugar cookie sweetness relaxes things, waiting on the slightly lingering citrus/coffee-ish/tinny bitterness that comes into the finish. Simple & delicious. Drinkability is just plain easy. Easier then Brownstone on cask. This IS cask though. I am only allowed so much of that. How about running this stuff through a randal stuffed with toasted marshmallows? :)

Notes from 1/28/2009 Growler from New Beer. I've had this before at Fette Sau before. House beers aren't really that exclusive anymore I guess. What initially was going to be a review of their Gorilla Warefare Coffee Porter, turns out to be some Mason's Black Wheat in that unlabeled vessel. Maybe there's coffee in the one next to it(or next to that? :P). Charred ruby black pour, oatmeal-ish head. Chinese calligraphy-looking lace. Smell was like a mild dry stout but with a slight hint of lactose. Carob, toasted grain, granola-ish, gentle. Taste composed of charred white bread, ash, a touch of carob powder, & rice husks. A bit of a satisfying richness on the finish. Carbonation was on; semi-dry. Very much the feel of a base stout. A good pounder, with more to offer then a house tap should. One of Sixpoint's more approachable offerings. That makes what, three(?) now. :P

Notes from 1/29/2009. Pricey little growler filled at New Beer. Poured into my Ommegang Anniversary glass. Slightly chill-hazed, orange/amber underneath stiff-peaks of off-white head. Immense citric notes of pineapple, orange, & grapefruit overflowing from this beer. Candied ginger & spicy yeast perfume along thanks to the alcohol. A sharply sweet bready malt upfront, followed by a tangerine & leafy green bitterness macerated in ethanol(that lingers). Minor medicinal qualities peak through. A school crossing of yeasty, doughy dryness finishes it off. When I drink this, I think of a richer rendition of a tripel. Slightly syrupy. It rolls more then pastes. Carbonation is spritzy, but small, fluffing the feel up. Price, availability, & the fact that I can't compose myself to have another might make me say, maybe next time. Might. :)
