Glass, 15 cl, drunk at Arendsnest, trip to Swansea, Amsterdam and Paris with Louise, savoured on August 28 2016; eye: golden, clear, no effervescence, white head that turns into a ring, light lacing; nose: citrus fruits, pine, hops, light spices, fresh; mouth: citrus fruits, pine, hops, light spices, fresh, pepper, semi-dry finale in pepper with presence of citrus fruits, light-medium body, rather carbonated, rather bitter, slick texture; overall: quite likable

330 mml bottle as part of the European Local Swap 2/2017, many thanks to RW80 for this one. Tasted on the 02/05/2017. Black colour with a medium beige head. Aroma is cocoa, hops, caramel and intense liquorice. Taste is intense liquorice, berries and hops. Quite strong finish with a dry palate. Next one please!

Bottle from het Biermoment, BB Sept 2018, 33 cl sample. Hazy amber color, big rocky head. Aroma is fruity of yellow plums, some caramel and toast and a bit of spicyness. Soft bitterness in taste, some biscuit and toast, slight fruity sweetness. Bit dry in the finish. All quite mellow, could use a bit more power perhaps. On the other hand, its pretty smooth now. Ok.

Draft @ In De Wildeman. Hazy golden color. Somewhat sticky white head. Aroma’s: fruity,vlight vegetal, hops. Retronasal it’s fruity hops, moderate bitter. Flavor is light grainish sweet, light bitter. Light bodied, but not too thin. Finishes with a long earthy bitterness.

Draft at In De Wildeman. Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roast, coffee, dark chocolate, malt, licorice and caramel. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter. Light full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle at home, black beer, small head. Aroma is roasted, coffee, malt. Taste is the same, bit watery, somewhat bitter, ok stout

Bottle @ home. A bit unclear dark red to red-brown color, average sized beige head that’s quite fizzy in the beginning but subsides quite quickly. Aroma is malts, some hops but not very dominantly. Taste malts, hops in there for sure, sticky a little bit as well but where’s the fruitiness? The pine? The resin? Ok, maybe there’s some resinous hints in there. The sticky hops aren’t all that bad and the bitterness is solid if not good, but I’m not convinced. Dutch brewers in general, and certainly De Eem too, can do much better with their IPA’s and IIPA’s. It’s not that they lack knowledge or facilities or ingredients, yet they can’t seem to make an IPA / IIPA that can compete with top US ones and I don’t understand why. On the other hand: the rare cases where they do succeed it’s not just a pleasure to drink the beer but also a very pleasant surprise.

Black. Light tan head. Sweet roasted malts. Metallic or just cold. Molasses. Sweet fruitiness apparently from appelstroop. Black match head. Some notable hoppiness. Over medium sweet & roasty bitter. Medium body, soft carb. Nice bitter bittersweet finish.
