Bottle at Metropole. It pours hazy deep orange-amber with a tiny white head. The nose is soft, stewed orange, tangerine, candied peel and tinned fruit. The taste is smooth, bitter stewed orange, oily tangerine, candied peel, bready, spicy and wood with a dry, earthy finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Rather orangey. Not a whole lot to it, but pretty drinkable.

Keg at Metropole. It pours hazy red-pink with medium off-white head. The nose is sweet candy, cherry drops, cherry pie, sugary action and icing sugar. The taste is sweet, sweet cherry pie, glazier cherry, candy, some earthy/funk in the, white sugar with a sweet finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Far too sweet for my tastes, but not particularly artificial. So-so.

Keg at Metropole. It pours cloudy golden-orange with a thick white head. The nose is sweet, tangy, apple, pear skin, light lactic notes and candied peel. The taste is sweet-sour, tangy, doughy, lactic action, dusty, apple, stewed pear, straw and hay with a short, dryish finish. Light-medium body and moderate foamy carbonation. Tangy apple beer. Interesting for sure, just not nearly as sour or funky as I had hoped for. OK.

Keg at Metropole. It pours dark brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet, caramel, dried fruits, raisin, date, cola and fruit cake. The taste is bitter-sweet, earthy roast, caramel, cola, toasty, brown bread, cola cubes, light alcohol and fruit cake with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a whole lot of depth, but it is well-rounded and quaffable nonetheless.

Bouteille 75cl courtesy of Tomaz straight from the brewpub’s shop. Bottle actually labelled as ’amber ale’.

Cloudy tan. Fruity, woody aroma with light phenols and alcohol. Interesting. Dry, slightly nutty with vague earthy notes along with orangey esters.

Light tan. No head. Light apple and pear notes on the nose. Slightly appley character. Light spice in the finish. OK, certainly nothing special.
