Clear amber-bronze color with a medium frothy bone white head that dissipates gradually to a dense film. Sticky strings of lace. Aroma of citrus, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of grapefruit, herbal hops and roast malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a short citrusy hop aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle pour from Valley Beverage Company. Appearance is opaque black with thin cap of light brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong dark chocolate and coffee, dark fruits with brief whiff of alcohol. Taste is rich chocolate, coffee, mild dark fruits, alcohol covered well. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with smooth, thick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, the sweet and bitter are well balanced so, rather than getting too much in either direction, you really get a focus on the richness of the flavors.

On tap at a pizzeria in San Diego. Clear brownish with a small head. Mild with caramel, light toasted malt and some coffee.

On tap at Bottlecraft, pours a deep dark amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma is intense, with lots of caramel, bourbon barrels and brown sugar. Flavour is perhaps even more intense, with a wonderful bourbon barrel character upfront, followed by sweet caramel malts, toffee, brown sugar and even a nicely bitter hop component. Wonderfully complex and rich. This is superb.
