Bag in a box, PoW, Farnborough. Aroma of own brand cola, with apply sauce thrown in. Appearance of flat cola. No head. Extremely sweet with sour hints. To be fair, the apple is prominent. Medium bodied. Slick. Like a heavy and flat cola. Long finish. On one hand it’s easy to drink, on the other I’d possibly be sick if I had more than this half pint. In Germany there’s a soft drink based on cola being mixed with orange - I wonder how this would go down?

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Hazy straw colour, no head and tangy apple & pear aroma. Taste is sweet & slightly tart mellow apple and some pear with light woody notes. Medium bodied, low carbonation, sweet dryish finish. OK.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Bright yellow gold colour, short-lived small fizzy white foam head and mango juice aroma. Taste is mango flavour, sweetener, tropical fruity, sweet apple. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, sweet finish. OK, very sweet.

Handpull from the Old Bicycle Shop, Cambridge. Yellowish orange, flat, slightly cloudy. A bit of scummy head on top. Raw cider vinegar in the aroma... was not prepared for this. The taste is improved, rather pleasant actually: it’s got a decent rounded fruity tang reminiscent of the better farm ciders. The lovely bitter-sour note remains to the end of the sip. There are issues with this but it’s a pleasant enough drop.

500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Sparkling golden colour with a white foam head that dissipates away and aroma of mellow apple. Taste is apple, sweetish, sugary with some fruity notes and slight tannins. Mouthfeel abit thin, light bodied, medium carbonation, dry lightly tannic finish. Quite OK.

Box @ Stable, Birmingham. Pours hazy, murky gold with a sour aroma. Taste is similarly sour and tangy with little apple fruit fighting its way through. Bristling sour tannins and wild orchard funk. A little hard to like.

On gravity at the Prince of Wales, Farnborough. The blackboard called it ’Merry Monkey Scrumpy’? However was pretty sweet so am presuming it’s the Merry Monkey and not Monkey Scrumpy. Aroma of floral apple blossom. Light gold. No head. Sweet, but with a savouriness in the finish. Medium bodied, velvety soft, with an abrupt finish. Haven’t ever gone for ciders but have really enjoyed the couple I’ve had here recently (another cider and a perry at the beer fest).

Bag in a box at Firkin Alehouse Folkestone. Hazy orange colour lasting white bubbles. That’s alright actually. Some apple and orange aroma. Some decent dryness on the finish. Some tannin. Some sweetness. Pretty good.

Box @ Stable, Birmingham. Pours clear gold. Aroma is rich golden apple, caramel. Taste is rich caramel, hints of brown sugar, not overly sweet and just about manageable. Very flavoursome one this.
