About
Formed from the merger of King & Sons, a maltsters set up in 1850, and G. H. Barnes & Co., a brewers dating back to 1800, in 1906 this family owned brewery survived until they were taken over by Hall & Woodhouse in Spring 2000, with all production at Horsham ceasing. The King & Barnes brand died out in late 2008.

Bottle at Craig's, 1996. Pours orange with floaters, nose is toffee, caramel, taste is similar ,slight funk, oxidized.

GBBF Day 1. Bottle. Late 90s bottle. Clear amber beer, small cream colour head. Palate is smooth and dry and has an amazing amount of carbonation. Tangy malts and tangy fruits. Almost sour citric peel. Mildly disty caramel malts. Light finish. Very old but lively and flavoursome.

Bottle shared at the GBBF 2018 day 1 07/08/2018. Many thanks to Daniel for this one. A clear cola nut brown coloured pour with a a halo of white head. Aroma is aged, soya sauce. Appl, musty. Flavour is composed of. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, tangy green apple tangy, soy, salty tea leaves. Palate is tangy plum, highish carbonation. Ok.

Old ass bottle thanks to Dan. It pours clear brown with a small white head. The earthy, musty, sweat, leather, spice, oxidised vibe and burnt toffee. The taste is dry, bitter, earthy, tart, tangy, brown bread, stewed black tea, tannin, spice and wood with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Old, bit not terrible.

Bodney Towers bottleshare. Thanks to Leighton. A 1993 bottle. Almost clear reddish amber beer, a few cream colour bubbles. Palate is smooth and has very modest carbonation. Wood and sherry dominates the malts. Mild tang. Red berries. Smooth finish. Pretty tasty but needs to breathe for 20 mins to get the best out of it.

Bottle shared at Leighton's place at the Ktwse tasting, 12/12/2017. Thanks to Ken. A Mostly clear nutty brown coloured pour with a halo of white head. Aroma is oxidised, sweet nutty malts, brown sugars, salty, umami, jammy. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, minty, stale malts. Palate si semi sweet, oxidised,lowish carboantion. . Minty.

1993 bottle care of LKS. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The aroma is earthy, tangy, dried fruits, raisin, umami, vanilla, fruit cake, oxidised malts, brown bread and umami. The taste is slick, oily, brown bread, fruit cake, raisin, date, earthy, tannin, earthy, light spice and wood with a dry, fruity finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Great condition for the age.

Bottle shared in London - vintage 1993. Pours clear ruby with a small, bubbly head. Nice aroma, some well toasted toffee, bread, graham crackers, berries, prunes. Medium sweet flavour with lots of meaty berries, chewy toffee, a little earth, leather, note prunes. Medium bodied, lightly oily, soft. Sweet finish, more meaty and leathery berries, fruit leather, sweet toffee. Has aged reasonably well.
