Can from explosivedog: pours slightly hazy with a white head. Aroma is wheaty, lightly funky, sort of citric. Taste is lightly funky, slightly sweet, almost tart. Pretty good.

Slim 12oz can pours with a nice deep dark chocolate mahogany colored body that supports a thin ring of tan bubbles. The aroma offers up chocolate flowing into subtle boozy barrel treatment and a sense of dark fruity esters. The taste delivers chocolate like notes mingling deeply with dark roasted malts. To midway the tangy barrel treatment comes along in a mild manner adding more depth as the modest booziness rises toward the finish. The barrel treatment only offers mild to even subtle smoky peatiness, unfortunately. I could really go for a bigger barrel treatment. This isn't nearly as intense as the first batch. It is, however, opening up some as it warms. I dig it.

Draught@CBC2016. Black colour, with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is coffee, some toffee, mild roasted tones as well as some oaty and chocolaty tones. Flavour is consists of pretty much the same elements as the aroma, weaved into a nice balance.

10 ounce at Ephemeral Taproom in Denver - lightly hazy amber - thick, well-sustained head - rich malt structure - bread, honey, bright fruitiness - moderate hop bitterness and floral notes through the middle before a lingering malt richness settles on the palate - nicely balanced - rich without being too sweet - pretty nice.

10 ounce draft at Ephemeral Tap Room in Denver - pours a lightly hazy gold - thick lace - nose of straw and light rusticity - lightly dusty and pepper yeast - flavor is dry and mildly tart/acidic - flinty - moderately peppery and mildly funky yeast character - finish is a little bit watery - would like slightly more complexity, but I appreciate the more traditional, lower-abv, drier approach they are taking with this one.
