Sample at CBC 2015. Black with a small head. On the sweet side with dark chocolate, some licorice, oak, bourbon and something that I can’t put my finger on.

Poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a glowing gold opaque body that supports a bright white head of foam. The aroma offers up lemon, grains, earthy gravel, grapefruit, and spicy herbal grassiness and above all of that is a thin cloud of slightly bacony soft smokiness. The taste is bold and quickly ramps up into near puckering bitterness and tartness that’s lemon and grapefruit like. Behind those notes lurks some grainy malts and earthy sort of smokiness amid all of the tart bitter refreshing notes. Interesting juxtaposition. Yet another light and refreshing and hugely sessionable hot weather brew.

Poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a near clear amber body that supports an off white head. The modest aroma offers up smooth malts, some soft prunes, raisins and grape fruitiness with some faint oak in the background. The taste is soft and smooth and swiftly ushers in raisins, plums, grapes and then a touch of wine tartness mixed lightly with spicy oak. It gets a little sweet and nectar like midway and into the finish but not reaching sipper silkiness. Into the finish the mild spicy oak and slight grape tannin tartness create a pleasing balance here.

Sample @ CBC. This sweet, fruity, malty and at the same time sour beer - somewhat reminds me of a belgian red ale.
