Cask at the Bear (JDW), Maidenhead. A bright amber pour with a tight cream head; aroma of orange and blackcurrant leafs; clean herbal taste to start, then some citrus; followed by a fresh orangey finish and a lasting bitterness. Rather good.

Half pint, cask at Mermaid. Next to clear warm golden body, bubbles at the surface, fragile lacing. Moderate oily hops on the nose. Doughy flavours, hints of apricot. Bittersweet ending. Satisfying. (Shared with Finn, St Albans 27.09.2018).

(Bottle) Clear Brown small white head. Nice aroma - roast nuts, hints of coffee and ash. Medium body, well carbonated. Taste has ash notes, some bitterness over burnt sugar. Unusual and drinkable.

Mahogany brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of bittersweet treacle notes. Also backed up by earthy, floral bitterness. It's a shame that it's so gassy.

50cl bottle from ALdi, Bracknell. A dark copper colour with a tight cream head; earthy, herbal aroma with a trace of licorice; rather thin with a taste of burnt sugar and malt; and an earthy finish with some coffee grounds. Hobgoblin is my benchmark for this sort of autumnal beer, and this is falls a long way short.
