Bottle. (as Originals Select Ale) It pours a clear, deep golden body with a finger-thick, creamy, off-white head. Quite sweetish on the nose, with dried fruits, toffee, some raspberries, a touch of alcohol, some nuttyness, dark plums and candy. Candy-ish sweet on the palate, full-bodied, smooth and quite effervescent. Alcohol warmth, hoppy bitterness, dried fruits, some nuttyness or maybe marzipan, raspberry jam, a little metallic note and some toffee as well. Lasting, sweetish finish with dried fruits and a balancing bitterness. Someone mentioned peppery notes too, and I agree on that. Not much though, I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t accidently see it in another rating. A strange one, both quite complex and quite simple. I like it very much though. A bit too sparkling though. Needs some mature cheese or/and canned pears I think. At least in order to perform at its best. (090222)

Biggish yellowish head. Slightly hazy brownish amber body with small floaties. Fruity wooden perfumy aroma. Sharp dry-sweetish fruity wooden taste with toffee, perfume, and metal notes. Sharpish mouthfeel. Fullish body. Dry citric fruity wooden aftertaste with lingering perfumy notes. Meaty, papery notes linger. Not bad, but not great, either. (0.5l bottle, from some corner store in Copenhagen. BBD 2009-04-13.)

Biggish offwhite head. Reddish brown body. Strong fruity roasty nutty aroma with perfumy raspberry notes. Dry-sweetish fruity raspberry taste with wooden rye notes. Faint alcohol heat, slightly astringent mouthfeel. Full body. Dry metallic perfumy raspberry aftertaste with stale papery caramel notes. Quite nice, but not too great, and slightly artificial as well as somewhat harsh. (0.5l bottle, Wine Monopoly.)

500 ml bottle, as Duchy Originals Organic Select Ale, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Also available in Norway at Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.2%. Clear and deep amber colour, moderate off-white head. Fairly strong and sweetish aroma with vinous and fruity notes (dates, figs), also notes of malts, pastry and caramel. The mouthfeel is fairly rich and full. The flavour is malty but not very sweet, earthy notes, some toffee and caramel, with fruity hops in the finish, leaving a decent bitterness in the aftertaste. Not bad at all.
