Handpull cask at the Two-Tailed Lion, Leicester. Reddish amber, clear with a small smattering of beige head and good lacing. Malty, astringent aroma with caramel and overripe citrus fruits. Bittersweet taste, orange bitters, Horlicks. Fruity and slightly astringent bitterness on the finish. Medium body, soft carbonation. It's okay. Not very remarkable.

Keg draught from Tønne.. light caramel amber, clear with an uneven grouping of off-white head. Malty aroma, some
Toffee apple notes, orange peel, light sweet spice. Taste is also sweet and light with some delicious malty character. Very light bitterness lines the finish on the way down. Thin body with carbonation on the low side. Not bad.

440ml can bought from the Offie, Leicester and drunk at home. Mid- to dark brown, mostly opaque with a spotty tan head. Dark cooking chocolate, dark caramel, yeast extract, slate on the aroma. Not much sweetness to the taste at all, it’s pretty bitter with salted caramel, more yeast extract and slightly burnt toast. Medium body with fairly heavy carbonation. Intense.

440ml bottle bought as part of a delivery from Raynville Superstore and drunk at home. Light gold and clear with a small ring of white head. Lemongrass, maybe a little stone fruit, champagne, light funk. Bittersweet taste, some vinous white grape, with medicinal bitterness later on. Well-attenuated finish. Light body with medium carbonation. Very nice!

12 ounce bottle bought as part of a delivery from Raynville Superstore and drunk at home. Pours light gold with a little bit of haze and a sizaeable ring of white head. Candy sugar on the nose with Belgian yeast, woody and linen character. Gorgeous taste, sweet with that lovely yeast sitting on my tongue, some oak, barley, light citrus. Light body with carbonation on the heavy side. I hope this never ends. My word.

340ml can bought as part of delivery from Raynville Superstore and drunk at home. Pours mid-gold, pretty hazy, only a small ring of white head. The big, boozy and almost-too-hoppy aroma is coddled somewhat by the notes of stone fruit, mint, pot, cantaloupe. Tastes very sweet, very boozy, with peaches, tangerine, melons. Weird almost milky aftertaste but I think I can live with that. Big body with very little carbonation. I approve.

440ml can taken away from the Blue Boar, Leicester and drunk at home. Dark brown, mostly translucent with a quickly dissipating khaki head. Dark chocolate dominates the aroma with notes of raisin, some molasses, some mint. Sweet taste, lots more chocolate, a touch of caramel. Bitterness in the aftertaste, feels that little bit artificial. Medium body with carbonation on the heavy side.

500ml can as part of a delivery from Raynville Superstore and drunk at home. Pours chocolate brown, fairly translucent with a slightly loose buff head. Fresh aroma, chocolate malt and pine, some light grapefruit, maybe a touch of ginger. Taste is fairly complex, spruce and more chocolate, it gets quite bitter in the middle of the sip but finishes on a nice balance. Light notes of liquorice in the aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. And artfully presented black lager.

Keg draught at the Queens Road Tap, Leicester. Mid-brown, translucent with a small film of beige head. Light malty aroma, some chocolate and sarsaparila notes. Bittersweet, more sarsapilla and basic malty character. Dry finish. Light body and heavy as hell carbonation. It's okay, nothing overly exciting.
