Handpull cask at the Grayston Unity, Halifax. Mid-gold and clear with a small soapy white head and a lot of lacing. Stone fruits and citrus in the aroma: it is remarkably subtle but worth putting your nose to work for this one! Sweet taste, some tropical fruit, a little vegetal, followed by a surprise bitterness in the finish. Silky body, soft to no carbonation. Not a perfect beer but I enjoyed it for sure.

Another great craft beer bar in Halifax. København is deceptively large with functional Scandi decor. The beer selection is superb, with 6 cask and 18 keg. Some of the keg won't be ticks for you, but there's lots of decent stuff to fins from Phoenix to Deya, Yonder and Brew York. The beers are priced at pints and halves on the menu but 1/3 and 2/3 also possible. It's a wonderful bar.

Keg draught at Købernhavn, Halifax. Mid- to dark gold and muddily hazy with an uneven swirl of white head. Insane hop aroma. A lot of grapefruit, lemon, pineapple along with a touch of pine. Wow. Taste is bittersweet with resinous, astringent and fruity hop notes plus quite a lot of mint. Bitter, medicinal and quite dry in the finish. Medium body with the carbonation dialled back. A very good Beer.

Trendy and friendly microbar in a city centre arcade. It's bright and airy and appealing to the young, but this middle aged codger is pretty fond of the decor too. And the beer. Four cask and 15 keg, not all of them are worth trying (e.g. Früli) but there are some bangers from Anthology, New Bristol, Bullhouse... you get the idea. Prices are more than fair. Really worth checking out. It's my first Halifax pub so can't compare it to the rest of the town but it's a good start for me.

Nitro draught at Duke's, Halifax. Dark brown, opaque with a thick and fairly tight khaki head. Nice coffee aroma, traces of liquorice, some vanilla. Sweetvtaste, more vanilla and touches of lighter dark chocolate blends. The heavy bitterness comes in fairly quickly after this and rests gently on the back of the tongue. Weighty body for the ABV. Carbonation kept to a minimum to give a lovely nitro mouthful. Really good.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Leicester city centre. Dark brown, opaque with a small uneven khaki head. Floral hoppy notes of the aroma are underpinned by coffee and roasted coconut. Taste is intensely bitter with piney and citrus hop. Even more bitter in the finish. Medium body, a little flat. A decent beer from Kernel.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, Leicester city centre. Pink and hazy with a thin smattering of white head. Raspberry aroma, notes of vanilla. Sweet taste, lots more raspberry and touches of blackcurrant with marshmallow and maybe a little bubblegum. Light body with slightly heavy tight carbonation. A decent enough sour.
