12 oz. 2011 bottle. $6.50 @Binny’s. Sorry, folks. I got the last one there. Opens and pours with a sensuous smell of chocolate, French roast coffee, and an old, empty bourbon barrel. Even some molasses cookies. Color is what else but black, with a deeply tan head of foam. Taste is complex swirl of chocolate, bourbon, coffee. I think some Cascade and Centennial, but in the main, mostly bittering hops. Sometimes, I think there’s some roast barley bitterness, other times I’m not so sure. But always, a sweet, sticky malt is left behind after other flavors have departed. So now I’ve enjoyed a lovely fresh KBS and can keep my 2006 bottle in the cellar, screwtop cap and all.

Traded for some high-proof Weyerbachers in 2005. Really? Another Cellar-clearing special:
Pours an amber color with no head. I can hear some fizzing as I pour. Thick sweet malt smell is more "aged" than oxidized. A little wild yeast or barnyard ferment. Light Belgian fruit and tart at the same time. Then a slight banana and clove aftertaste. Probably should have just enjoyed this more fresh. A lot of dregs to swirl up toward the end of the glass.

So Brewver will accept Kvass, so long as there's a smidgen of alcohol. Got this with my paçzki at Shop&Save for 89¢.
Amber pour under a soda pop head. Smell is like a Malto Goya, clearly no bittering involved. Taste has some dark bread notes, but just a little too sweet; though that's probably to the style. But as a "work beer," it's decent enough. Trailing note of cola.

Draft pour at Goldfinger. Almost as dark as a doppelbock, with a creamy off-white head. Smell still has some yeast to it that overrides anything else at first. Taste is a full, hearty and malty smack. Caramel roast that would be pretty sweet if not for an otherwise indistinguishable balance of German style hops. Maybe a side note of black tea. Smell resolves to big doppel malts further down.
