Cask at Pickled Pig, Stafford. Pours golden yellow with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing, There’s citrus and mandarin in the aroma plus some traces of floral hops. In the mouth there is an initial sweetness but this is very quickly replaced by creamy bitterness. Flavour is mainly mixed hops with hints of kiwi and grapefruit. Finish is quite dry. This is reasonable though somewhat bland.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours golden straw with minimal almost white head and good lacing. The aroma is fresh citrus and floral hops. In the mouth it is initially sweet and creamy but from the start there is a little underlying bitterness and this gradually becomes prominent. Flavours is pretty much standard malts, floral hops and citrus with some tangerine and hints of mango coming through later. This is decent – nice and refreshing, though not distinctive.

Bottle at Hops, Crewe. Pours golden amber with a medium sized frothy almost white head. Some lacing and fairly high carbonation. The aroma as malts and bread rolls plus some hoppy hints. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy with malts to the fore, but also a little underlying sharpness with grains and continental hops prominent. Some grassy traces later on leading to a slightly bitter finish. Not bad at all – but not particularly exciting either !

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a small foamy almost white head and good lacing. There’s floral hops and melon in the aroma. In the mouth there is a brief burst of sweetness before it is swamped by bitterness of floral hops, along with marmalade and hints of alcoholic strength. Tropical fruits come through later as do traces of melon and mango. Finish is quite dry and bitter. This is decent.
