A small bottle from the off-licence opposite Jing Mei fire station. Aroma: fresh grass, vinous, boozy fumes, good stuff. Appearance: semi-opaque honey amber. Remarkable head, no gusher but foam occupied 2/3s the glass, nice creamy cap. Palate: full-bodied and rather oily, softish carbonation despite the foam; finish is long, boozy and warming. Taste: medium-sweet with rock candy, almond, some pepper from the alcohol. Good beer - only drawback was the head dissipated so slowly it took ages to drink my money’s worth.

A small bottle from the off-licence opposite Jing Mei fire station. Aroma: powerful, fruity, Christmas pudding. Appearance: opaque oxtail soup, big floaters rising to the surface - presumably nutritious but a bit off-putting, head is 2-3mm. cafe au lait. Palate: full-bodied, nice satisfying mouth feel, average carbonation; finish is very long and lingering. Taste: medium-sweet, malty, plenty almond, port. Alcohol very apparent in the mouth, enters the bloodstream, hits the spot. Keeping my fingers crossed the floaters don’t presage a headache, great stuff nonetheless.

A small bottle from the off-licence opposite Jing Mei fire station. Aroma: very rich, predominantly chocolate. Appearance: opaque cola, massive head of tan cream, fills a 500ml. mug to the brim, looks beautiful. Palate: full-bodied with a full and chewy mouth feel, softish carbonation; finishes long and roasty. Taste: lightly bitter, sweet notes defer to the roast; chocolate from the aroma outweighed by a big coffee hit. Alcohol sneaks in through the back door. Pretty good, could do with a slightly sweeter finish.

A small bottle from Mia C’Bon near NCCU. Aroma: yeasty, fresh bread. Appearance: semi-opaque oxtail soup, massive tan head rapidly dissipating. Palate: medium-bodied and slick, carbonation - a gusher - I took it out the fridge 20 minutes before drinking, and lost a lot of it across the desk. Finish is malty, the rather pleasant aftertaste doesn’t linger. Taste: lightly sweet with plenty of malt, some biscuit and almond. Serviceable.
