Palate: medium-bodied and slick, average carbonation; finish is long and lingering, complex and well-balanced. Taste: medium-sweet with some malted notes, a bit of biscuit, some vanilla. Alcohol is warming, very satisfying.

NL/BEL excursion day 6: at the Brasserie Toussaint in Outremeuse, Liege; a small bottle. Aroma: slightly grassy. Appearance: opaque light amber, 2-3mm. off-white scum, lots of little floaters descending. Palate: medium-bodied and slick, lively carbonation; finish is dry and rather abrupt. Taste: lightly sweet, a bit of rock candy, tonic water, alcohol is well-hidden. Nice and dry, palate trumps flavour.

NL/BEL excursion day 6: at their tasting room in Liege, a small one, keg. Aroma: very strong and inviting smell of coffee. Appearance: opaque cola, gargantuan head of beautiful tan bubbles. Palate: full-bodied and oily on the tongue, average carbonation; finish is long and very well roasted. Taste: lightly sweet, bags of coffee, close to espresso, which does not overwhelm the flavour; alcohol is subtle. Well-balanced and very satisfying.

NL/BEL excursion day 6: at their tasting room in Liege, a small one, keg. Aroma: fresh and grassy, rather sour. Appearance: semi-opaque amber, one finger off-white foam. Palate: medium-bodied and sticky on the tongue, average carbonation; finish is long lasting and slightly tart. Taste: lightly sweet with bitter notes, well-balanced. Parma violets, a hit of sherbet; quite good.

NL/BEL excursion day 4: at t’Pothuiske in Maastricht, a small one, keg. Aroma: tangerine peel. Appearance: opaque lemon, 1-2 mm. snow white scum. Palate: light-bodied and slick, soft carbonation; finish is quite abrupt. Taste: lightly sweet, tangerines, nothing is out of place but one is enough.

NL/BEL excursion day 4: at t’Pothuiske in Maastricht, a small one, keg. Aroma: grassy. Appearance: clear light amber, one finger off-white cream. Palate: light-bodied and sticky on the tongue, average carbonation; long finish ending sweet. Taste: lightly sweet with some astringency, digestive biscuit and a suggestion of peanut. Very drinkable.

NL/BEL excursion day 4: at their tasting room in Maastricht, a small one, keg. Aroma: rather sour, 70s era homebrew. Appearance: semi-opaque lemon amber, head is negligible. Palate: full-bodied, average carbonation; finish is alcohol-fuelled with unexpected dryness. Taste: medium-sweet, complex and well-balanced. Rock candy is understated and palatable; almond, vanilla, a hit of lemon. Alcohol kick in the face, an extremely satisfying beverage.
