This place was absolutely rammed with people watching the England rugby match that evening.. Standing room only. I could barley get to the bar and ended up ordering from the side entrance rather than the main bar.. Couldn't see what beers were on other than the 3 or so casks, only one of which was a tick. Sat outside where quite a few people.seemws pretty inebriated. Sunken my pint and scarpered for the train.. Not quite the quant small town alehouse I was expecting, despite the.olde exterior.

I am sure I wrote a review of this place at the time but it must not have saved properly. It's in a presumably victorian redbrick building that has been refurbished into seperate units. The entrance faces away from.thenroad so I ended up doing a circuit of the building trying to find my way in, after the taxi driver dropped me off on the wrong side. Quite a large interior with what appears to be second hand furniture. An array of their beers on tap plus a fridge with guest beers ans ciders. It wasn't particularly busy. One person turned up to buy beers to take away and a few people came into see if the rugby was on. Kinda typical brewry tap. Friendly guy on sole.duty.

Can from Hogs Back Brewery Shop. Slick opaque gold. Thick foamy white head. The aroma is subtle - resin and malts but restrained. Medium bitter..Resinous. Peripheral tart citrus. Underlying earthy malts..Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. A refined Westie. Bitter but gentle with it.

Underlying resinous streak that then gains strength. Medium bodied. Slick to oily. Flat carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Dece, bruv.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. Dark amber. Slightly opaque. Foamy off-white head soon recedes. Aroma has grains, malts. Some spice. Flavourwise is then unexpectedly sour - berries and rye. Develops hints of sweetness, moreso into the finish. Caramel and fruit. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Enjoyable and easy drinking.

Bottle bought at Beautiful Beers, Bury St Edmunds. Hazy pale gold. Thick fluffy foamy white head. Aroma has grapefruit, lemon, malts, a hint of spice. Flavourwise we have a bitter streak. Tart edge. Grapefruit. Gooseberry. Woody. Earthy. Underlying sweetness is an afterthought. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat-soft carbonation..Long dry astringent finish. Relatively punchy but doesn't maintain my interest... one hop, one noted, perhaps.
