250ml can from Petritegi, shared with Soph on Plage de Hendaye, France. Drunk from the can. Interesting sweet apple varieties, skin, hints of green apple and cantaloupe, moderate carbonation. Nice refresher.

75cl bottle from Kupela, Bayonne. Misty pale golden yellow appearance, bright effervescence. Has a nicely tangy, lightly fleshy sweet character.. light syrupy inflection, perhaps a little fresher and greener than standard Brittany / Normandy demi sec. Nice

Large, smart, modern building overlooking the river Adour. Primarily a restaurant seemingly geared towards smartly-dressed lunchtime business workers and large groups, few of whom were drinking Kupela cider. We asked to sit in the large wooden barrel with a table inside and, although at first reluctant, (we assumed this was reserved for actual restaurant customers) the barman realised they were closing soon so why not. Unlike other Basque cidery restaurants this has a bar with some adjacent shelving stocking all their current range to take away. Only Demi-Sec on draft with three from the brewery brand owned by the Kupela drinks umbrella company. Some t-shirts for sale too. Bear in mind they are only open 12pm - 2pm and although you can just buy a drink it's generally frowned upon, unless you order food.

440ml can with the 'I love Bayonne' label. Misty gold pour, thin white head. Quite hoppy with fleshy fruity citrus, grapefruit.. more of an IPA really than an IPL.. a little shouty and aggressive, expected a more gentle blonde character ok.

Visited not really knowing what to expect.. a shiny modern taproom, or a simple shop? This was more the latter, a simple stand by the roller shutter doors which, on this balmy afternoon, was fully open. The building is situated in an industrial estate not far from the centre of Bayonne, though still a good walk. Around 15 cans and bottles available, not just hazy IPAs, we got a fruit sour and imperial stout. No merch on our visit unfortunately.
