12 September 2025. At Rose Red, Bruges. Cheers to Anke, mom & dad!

Hazy golden, thin, foamy, white head. Aroma of gooseberry, quince, green apple, rhubarb, oak, horseblanket, vague rosemary. Taste has sour gooseberry, quince, apple & plum in a bread-crusty, sourdough-like malt body surrounded by funky notes of hay, grass and cheese. Very long, mouth-puckering finish, lots of lactic acid, rhubarb, some grape, oak-like tannins and soft white wine-like alcohol. Medium body, moussy texture, average carbonation. Feels very 'noble'; relatively acidic with restrained funk.

12 September 2025. At Rose Red, Bruges. Cheers to Anke, mom & dad! Bottled: 18/2/2016.

Hazy dark brown, very thin, tan head. Aroma of ruby port, oxidised red wine, soy sauce, gingerbread, tobacco, malt vinegar, 'prosciutto crudo', cherry, brambleberry. Taste has sour cherry, brambleberry, blackcurrant, green apple, some sweetish ripe passion fruit & nectarine as well in a gingerbready, bit almondy, jam-like malt body with a touch of umami soy sauce. Tart cherry pits, dried dark fruits and woody tannins in the finish, whiff of herbal tobacco and warming ruby port- or red wine-like alcohol. Medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Intense and complex, absolutely gorgeous example of the style.

Bottle from Bier van Olier.
A: gusher! Hazy golden, huge, frothy, white head.
A: iron, soda water, starch, wheat, lemon zest.
T: sweetish apple & pear, sourish wheat, clove.
F: grassy hops, yellow fruit, spices, iron.
P: medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation.
Too fizzy, spicy, metallic too; all over the place (also literally).

Bottle.
A: hazy dark brown, small, foamy, tan head.
A: liquorice, aniseed, beef stock, brown bread, iron.
T: sweetish fig & prune, herbal liquorice & aniseed, toast.
F: herbal hops, spices, toast, touch of coffee.
P: medium body, thin oily texture, average carbonation.
Does have some redeeming 'brown' aspects but it leans too heavily still on the herbal profile.

Can from Delhaize.
A: clear golden, stable, frothy, white head.
A: cooked apple, vodka, white rum, white sugar, detergent, wet cloth.
T: sweet cooked apple & pear, white sugar, soap, bitter vodka.
F: wry, bitter plastic, boozy vodka-like alcohol.
P: medium body, oily texture, average carbonation.
Despite the obnoxious alcohol, it's actually more tasteless than wry.

Bottle from Stacks. Hazy black, stable, foamy, beige head. Aroma of espresso, tobacco, chocolate sauce, black olive, salmiak, peated whisky, charred wood. Taste has sweetish raisin & brambleberry in a dark-chocolatey malt body; bitter 'caffè crema' along with umami salmiak & smoke in the middle. Peppery hops in the finish, pronounced coffee roast & fondant and warming peated whisky-like alcohol, establishing the smoky effect until the very end withouth overdoing it. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Another powerful Brambrass Stout.
