Schramm’s Red Agnes is more finely balanced and perceivably less sweet than her Scottish cousin, Black Agnes. Red currants provide deep floral aromatics, a fruitier initial impression, more focused acidity, and a stunning cardinal hue. Lighter and more quaffable than Black Agnes, this mead is dangerously drinkable with a delicately balanced acidity which allows the honey and fruit to sing in harmony together. A light burgundy red mead with aroma of sweet raspberry jam, grapes, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity raspberry jam with light acidity, alcohol warmth, light cork character, very nice and complex. Bottle at meadery.

Batch 1 bottle shared by Brian on 12/9/17.
Clear red raspberry-strawberry maroon color.
Strawberry-raspberry and light bubble gum, kinda on the boozy side, which is unusual for Schramm's. Definitely some sugar depth in the nose, as well, which creates some balance with the moderate acidity.
Strong notes of strawberry and moderately acidic raspberry mix with very warming alcohol and rich honey. Piquant acidity creates balance but it's a bit waxy, peppery and just all-around not very polished or cohesive. Sweet, of course. Perhaps it's just not a great candidate for aging? That seems very unlikely but whatever the case, this wasn't up to Schramm's usual high standards, IMHO.

Bottle tanks to my mom! Pours a deep red with a purple hue and a pinkish head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma is full of dry honey with a hint of red currant. Flavor has an amazing red currant note that is sweet with a slight tartness with a dry honey note supporting.

Batch 1 bottle shared by Biggsbowler. Tiny hazy red pour leaving some nice looking legs on the glass with a swirl. Intense fruity & nutty nose with floral honey, red currant, walnuts, lemon juice, minerals & a light alcohol burn. Sweet, sour, fruity, floral & nutty taste. Round, viscous, oily & tart mouthfeel. Intense & with a very cool nutty dimension to it. Love it!Batch 2 bottle shared by Hackobock. rounder & more mellow than batch 1. Still some walnuts but that character is definitely lighter in batch 2 & is more reminiscent of currant pits. Not quite as cool as batch 1 but still an amazing mead.

Not as heavy on the walnut character as batch 1 but definitely heavier in the pure red currant goodness.

Thanks Brad for sharing the bottle! Poured into a taster showing translucent cherry red. The nose shows light honey. The palate is full bodied. Extremely currant forward. Moderately sweet with the same intense alcoholic spiciness.
