Perhaps our most missed delight. We have decided it was time to bring back the coconut focus we all have dearly missed. Bolo is an American Brown Ale aged with raw macaroon coconut and brown sugar, adding a quaffable abundance of sweet tropical goodness. A perpetual spectrum of mind-bending examination, in the most drinkable of dark beers.
Dense forest demand sharp blades. Worn, torn, chipped or rusted, the Bolo shepherds the path. Later still, this tool of ancient times takes on the tiring task of harvesting the hidden fruit of the tropics. Enjoy an aroma that reminds you of tropical granola with a smooth maltiness that hints at chocolate and nuts. Baked in our kettle, cured to perfection.

I had to merge this rating while my beer was getting warm. 12oz bottle from GBX. Pint glass @home. Only ever seen this in cans. Roasty with a touch of ash, cola sweetness on the nose. Bittersweet, roasted to the cusp of char, a little bit of dark fruit, cola, muddy chocolate, oily but mild coconut, slight pith on the tail. Robust bordering heavy, frothy, bigger than average acid. Solid.

12 ounce bottle from Tavour. Translucent cola brown color. Frothy tan head. Spotty lacing. Mild toasted malt aroma. Toasted malt flavor hints at sweet cocoa and toasted coconut. A hint of nuttiness as well. All flavors are subtle, making this a very easy drinking Brown Ale. Would have liked a bit more coconut, but all in all, this is a solid offering.

4 oz draft. Aroma has plenty of coconut. Flavor is mildly nutty with mounds and mounds of coconut. Sort of does remind me of the candy bar. ” sometimes you feel like a nut sometimes you don’t. “

Brown with a fleeting, frothy head. Aroma full of cocoa. Hints of coconut. Taste is bittersweet to sweet. Roasted coffee undertones brimming with chocolate. Lingering coconut at the end. Good although a bit heavy handed.

Can purchased in St. Pete, FL. Pours an opaque very dark brown color with a beige head and very good retention. Spotty lacing. Aroma dominated by dark chocolate. The flavor matches the nose. Mostly dark cocoa with a little nut flavor in the dry-ish finish. Where's the coconut flavor? Clean and smooth.

A can $3. Why did I buy this? I don't like coconut in beers. Looks nice in a mug. Perhaps a tiny amount of coconut nose? Not sure. Sweet cloying up front. Rather rude, almost. Stronger darker beer attitude. Could use a little less alky and sugar. Some fine cutting co2 sizzle. Perhaps it gets a little more acceptable in the middle, just barely. Sweet coke nut still prominent in the end. There, you have it.

Pint can pours with a nice looking mahogany colored body that has clear deep ruby red edges and supports a full tan head of foam. The aroma offers up malts, nuttiness, a woody note, thin chocolate and a bit of dark roasted malts. The taste delivers sweet malts, some malt roastiness, a sliver of earthy chocolate and then brown sugar sweetened sweet nuttiness. Nice tasting brown that delivers a pleasing albeit thin earthy like tobacco goodness. Coconut though. Not sure. If I reach and mentally impose coconut maybe something is there. Good beer nonetheless.

Decent blend of an easy-drinking brown ale with coconut, hitting minor roasty, java-tinged malt notes with a discernible dose of unsweetened coconut on the back end. Front offers up mild hints of bittersweet cocoa, nuts, and toast, while the finish follows a yeasty English path, leading to a modestly dry fade accented by coconut and an almond-tinted bitterness. Nose is mostly coconut, while the pour comes out a thin, fizzy brown with a slight beige head and little to no lacing. Texture's light and watery, too weak to make much of an impression. Tasty, but needs more heft.

Pour is a dark brown almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and some roasted nuts, very little coconut. Flavor is brown ale chocolate malt and again a very small coconut that shows up mostly after the swallow. It’s a brown ale with an adjunct that does not really show up all that well. Canned on 4/11/17 so I’m sure fresher is always better.
