Bottled. A slightly hazy golden beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is sweet matly with a light touch of hops. The flavor is sweet malty again with a light touch of hops, leading to a dry and slightly bitter end.

Bottle. Hazy pale straw body, thin off-white head. Earthy, biscuity, grassy nose. Crisp body with strong carbonation, dominated by grassy hops, yeast, and light bready malt. Basic but refreshing.

(Bottle, thanks to Marsiblursi) Sampled at a tasting night at Marsiblursi’s place. Shady yellow color, small white head. Apple and cinnamon scent, also grainy malt and marzipan. Weak malty taste, with a little bit fruit. Watery and acidic mouthfeel, low bitterness.

GABF 2006 - poured and sampled this beer. Pour is hazy yellow, yeasty aroma and taste. Hops stand out towards end. Nothing too exceptional about this one.

Style 64/70 12 ounce Bottle from a trade with iowaherkeye, Thnaks Joey for hooking up us California boys. Grassy, grainy nose with a little sourness; very slighly hazy yellow-gold with a small white head.Tart citrusy malt flavor with the hops showing a little and lingering into the finish with a little spiciness.

Dull straw-beige appearance and whispiest head have this looking pretty close to terrible. Dusty, musty yeastiness and fresh, breezy pale malt notes. Moderate body and dull, dusty muted malt notes. Pretty underwhelming.

2006 bottle from StewardofGondor, consumed on 4/26/06
Fairly vigorous, yet careful pour yields a sparkling copper-gold body, with deep honey tresses, topped by a lightly fluffy, cream-colored head that is quick to recede but hangs about at partial cover, with blotchy lacing left in places. Plenty of sediment sits on the bottom of the bottle.
Nose is redolent of crisp, herbal notes, a fresh field of wildflowers and finally warm honey-dough baking in the summer countryside. Snappy, lightly peppery and filled with a yeasty bite on end, the pils malts never build up too much, and a fresh spiciness evolves as the beer warms, brought on by light yeast phenols and hop dryness. I do get some unwanted lager yeast bi-product, in the aroma at first (light phenols, corn, dry vanilla and perhaps a touch of DMS), but it is fully passing and sniffing the glass 15 minutes after my first sniff, it seems to be solely driven by hops and lightly spicy yeast. It has a medium strength, and no alcohol apparency.
The flavor is crisp, light bodied and full of peppery-spicy hops and dry, toasty grains that balance the subtle, but ample pils malt sweetness. Carbonation is rather low, but the feel of the natural, soft bubbles allows the highly flavorful liquid to glide down the throat seemlessly. Light hickory nut skin, white pepper, dill/oregano and fresh basil notes all dot the palate, with a short-lived, but crisp and cleansing bitterness.
Anything but a "typical lager", and if you concern yourself less with the marketing and more with the beer, it’s easy to see. Thanks Joel!

It has the standard lager aroma but it does it better than most. There is yeast and malt in there and it is fairly sweet. Dark gold color, with a large but quickly fading head that leaves a lacing. It could almost pass for a hefeweizen based on appearance. Flavor is malt and bread. Lightly bitter but no bite. I wouldn’t call it crisp, but it is light and easy going as a session beer. The only other Zwickel I have had was also from NG, so comparing it to others of the style is hard, but this is good enough on its own.

Thanks to Suttree for sharing this one. Small persistant white head over a hazy lemon yellow body. Small particulates float about in this one. Citrusy lemon aroma with honey malt. Light fruity flavor that’s delivered with a light, dry finish.
