The recipe for a citrusy, hibiscus-flavored wheat ale that Steele conceived was first brewed on the 10-barrel brewhouse at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station. Originally named “Going Red,” the beer was a special-release offering to promote awareness of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign.
The hibiscus flowers added in the whirlpool contribute so much to this beer: the pink color, the tart flavor, and the intense floral and berry characters. Orange peel adds some notes of tropical fruit flavor, which increases the refreshing quality of this beer.

A hazed pinkish amber ale with floaties, thick frothy light pinkish white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with candy sugar, orange pulp, light hibiscus, berries, nice. In mouth, a sweet fruity malt with loads of hibiscus, curacao, coriander, pleasant if a bit oxidized. Bottle from Winooski beverage warehouse, 1 year old.

Keg at Craft. It pours lightly hazy pinkish-amber with a decent white head. The nose is soft, sweet, floral, perfumed, spice, straw, berry and pepper. The taste is crisp, bitter-sweet, lightly tart, floral, hibiscus action, straw, berry skin, booze and pink grapefruit. Medium body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. I like the idea, but it is a touch hot. I was hoping for something a bit more refreshing... Decent anyhow.

On tap at Happy Gnome. Pours a clear amber orange with a touch of red and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a slightly tart hibiscus note with a bit of Belgian yeast and sweet grain underlying. Flavor is similar with a tart hibiscus note throughout, Belgian yeast and a bit of grain backing.

(bottle) bright, clear reddish amber colour with a small beige head; aroma starts with noble hops, then sour fruit; flavour starts tart then turns bitter, with long, light bitter finish; unexciting

Keg at the CP&K, 24/04/15. Pinkish amber with a dcent crimson top that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is pissy straw, floral notes, yeast esters, grain, pink berry tunes, light citric vibes. Taste comprises light red berry strains, damp hay, spice, perfume. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok.

Bottle: Poured a pinkish color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light sweet malt notes with light fruity ester with some hibiscus notes. Taste is also dominated by hibiscus notes with some sweet malt notes and light fruity ester. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. I was expecting hibiscus to be even more showcase but still an enjoyable beer nonetheless.
