Trader Joe’s, DC single 11.2oz: Pours a light brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is the low point and it smells pretty much like any macro lager. However, the taste is full of bready, roasted malts with sufficient character. There are some cocoa notes in there as well. Slightly bitter hops that leave a mild aftertaste. Good value, and a pretty good beer, although something is screwy with the aroma.

Bottle. Pretty solid beer. Pours a clear, russet hue with a medium, white head. Heavy malt aroma with good notes of caramel, chocolate and fruit. Flavor is mostly sweet with a dynamic malt profile: Plenty of toasted grains, light chocolate, ripe fruits. Also has some mild, herbal hops. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweet and a bit smokey. I’d say this beer deserves a better rating.

Dark roasted malt and coffee aroma, moderately weak. Clear chestnut, no head. Tastes as it smells, but a bit of cardboard toward the end. Coffee is distinctly evident in the finish. Decent and better than expected.

Purchased at Trader Joe’s in Nashville on my trip there. Pours a light copper colour with an off-white head that stays longer than expected, keeps a coat on the brew and leaves decent sticky lace. Big caramel aroma with some notes of roasted one and a touch of alcohol. Red apple taste at the start, with hints of nuts, to then end in the caramel malt finish. Coffee lingers a bit into the aftertaste. Quite a surprise, being a dark beer from Mexico and actually not being water.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear red brown with a white head. Aroma is sweet caramel, toffee, and molasses. Flavor has the caramel and molasses, some nuts and toasty malt. Flavor is good at first, but it starts to fall apart about half way through as hints of alcohol and off flavors start to appear. Too bad, it was actually pretty nice for a while.

Bottles thanks to fratto. Pours light brown with a tan minimalist head. Aroma of caramel and apple. Flavors are off with cardboard and apple. Not good. Fizzy.

12oz bottle scooped up from Trader Joes as part of a $5.99 6-pack of personally unrated beers. Caramel-amber appearance with a big, patchy head that fades out after a minute or two. Sweet and soapy fresh aroma. Medium bodied, pretty insipid stuff really. Mild dark malt tones, pretty watery with a lingering sweetness. Sessionable, but a pretty weak beer.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Trader Joes (Short Pump), 12/12/09
Aroma: A pretty light aroma of caramel and nuts
Appearance: Somewhat clear brownish color, some lace
Flavor: Taste is nutty malts and caramel, medium sweet
Palate: Light-medium body, somewhat short duration
Overall Impression: Overall it is a decent beer, not great, but not as bad as one might have expected from the style attempt that they made here.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a decent caramel and roast malts. Flavor is roasty but overall watery. Probably equal to negra modelo and a whole lot cheaper.
