On tap at John Browns. Pours a clear amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a strong nuttiness with sweet grains and bread supporting. Flavor has a combination of sweet grains and nuts with an underlying toffee note.

Originally rated February 2006. Thanks to Plug for bringing this one back from the brewpub. This beer is now called Pump House Scotch Ale. Pours a dark caramel-copper colour with a nice creamy tanned head. Good lacing with medium retention. The nose is nutty and malty with a touch of brown sugar. Watery mouthfeel and tiny bubble carbonation. Starts off on a caramel note and finishes on a smoked aftertaste. Too bad body is too thin and taste too light, because this would be a great Scotch ale... or rauchbier.

bottle pours dark mahogany with a tall light tan head. Aroma is molasses and bread malts. Flavor is chocolate malt, some caramel, and light spicing with a hint of coffee. Not bad at all.

This ale pours a dark orange colour with a great big tan frothy head. To the nose you could smell raisins, glue and a doughy yeasty scent. First sip was smokey with flavours of smoked meat and wood. Maybe a little molassass. Palate was good but thick and almost oily with lingering flavours of the above.

Hazy brown ale with a decent off-white head. Aroma was bad news...infection! Smokey malt with some lactic notes. In mouth, the smokey caramel malt yielded to the gueuzy lactic acid. A thin bodied scotch ale which, at 8 months of age, did not survive well. Obtained from OKbeer in late march 2005.

Mahongany color. Smokey, peaty nose. Light mouth, peaty, earthy malty mouth. Light bodied, peaty malty finish with a touch of whisky. Well balanced, but not overly complex.

Good off white head over a brown body. Malty aroma but a bit restrained for the style. The flavor follows correctly at first, but fails to develop fully and there is a slight sourness to the finish. Decent, but not great.
