Winner of the silver medal at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival, this Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beer—it has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy.

Bottle from Total Wine in Roseville, CA. Pours dark amber with a foamy beige head. Warm malt aromas. Med body or more. Flavor is caramel. There’s a bit of hop flavor, and it’s more dry than not, but it is not at all bitter. That said, it rather fits the style, tho I think it could be taken for a doppelbock. There is a touch of chocolate eventually. But I’ll go with it being a dubble. I like a little more flavor variation - the complexity is clearly too subtle for me - but I’ma gonna drink it.

Green olives, candi, baby food banana, and fig aroma. Cloudy ochre, full of sediment., thin head. Baby food banana, oats, olives, and figs. The olive component ruins this beer. Pretty awful.

A reddish brown ale with a very thin off white head. In aroma, sweet butterscotch, cloying, rather Irish-Scottish, In mouth, a sweet cloying malt with fruity esters, nutty, not very good. Bottle at Mondial 2011, June 12 2011.

12 oz bottle. Pored into a tulip glass. Deep brown like mahogany wood. Very nice fruity and sweet malty nose. Taste is really good. I got a fresh 6 pack in NJ. Taste is candy sugar, tart cherry fruit and caramel. The body is a bit thin but the ABV is hidden well. I don’t taste the 7.3 at all even as it warms I don’t detect it. VERY drinkable. I like it. In fact I’m going to drink another right now!

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, some raisin, orange, caramel, bread, and candied sugar
Appearance: The pour is hazy with a brown color, an orange tint, and a small beige head
Flavor: The taste is medium (plus) sweet with a nice blend of citrus and caramel flavors
Palate: This one is medium bodied with a slightly sticky mouthfeel and average (plus) carbonation
Overall Impression: Overall, this is a pretty decent Doubel. Not a top notch example of the style, but a pretty good one. It hides the alcohol really well. Perhaps it was a little too sweet, but otherwise it is a pretty enjoyable beer.

12oz bottle pours ruby red with thin white head. The aroma is full up prunes, raisins and red apples as well as brown sugar, yeasty spices and some heat at the end of the draw. The taste seems thin in body and brings up raisins, dried cherries, prunes and some pepperiness. By about midway yeasty spices join in along with a sense of brown sugar.

Cuivre, quasi pas de mousse. Arôme, je note un aspect presque bien prononce de fruits noirs, malt Goût de fruits noirs; raisin et pruneau, levure belge, sucre brun, fini reste sec avec des notes d’épices. Le tout fini avec qcq notes d’amertume et de houblon tout en gardant un palais épais et fruité.

Draught: Poured a caramel brown with a light reddish outline, the head was creamy off white. Aroma was nice mix of fruit and caramel malt. Taste was nice fruit with loads of malts for balance. The finish was dry and warming to the tongue. What a beer to celebrate the birth of my son!

12 oz bottle--light brown with a small beige head....yeast and caramel aroma mixed with some dark fruit (raisin and prune) and light molasses.....but even though these flavors are detected, they are all light and not very impressive....an ok beer...this one has a tad of age on it....some decent dots of lacing

Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention but minimal lacing. Aroma of fruity ester with some sweet Belgian style malt and some light alcohol. Taste is a nice enough mix between some fruity ester some candi sugar and nice Belgian malt. Body is about average with good carbonation but light alcohol burn was slightly disappointing. Not bad overall but I have seen better form this style.
