Super deep dark brown body with only slivers of light getting through the bottom of the glass, with a thick, luscious and long-lasting, six centimetre tall light brown head. When opening the bottle, I had some spillage, but not a crazy amount and was able to quickly pour it in the glass, but beware! Aroma of dense roasted malt, tons of sugars, tons of pit fruits and perhaps the most yeast I’ve smelled from a beer - this is pure bread. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong german hop notes (pellets, though it tastes like) with a floral and almost medicinal flavour then showing some chocolate and roasty notes with the yeast and bread flavours hitting at the end. Aftertaste is deep and robust with a lot of flavours all coming at once - nicely, but very potent. Overall, a good beer with plenty of interesting tastes, but it was only okay as a Baltic Porter; When you have to compete against Zywiec Porter, it’s tough to even come close, and sadly, this one doesn’t. I sampled this stubby, 33 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 16-February-2012 for US$4.99 sampled at home in Washington on 10-August-2012.

On tap at The Lion’s Pride. Came to the table a solid black color with a small bubbly tan head that dissipates to a cap. Smells of roast and chocolate with an earthy spicy edge to it. I can’t find very much funk in the nose. Flavors of roast, caramel, and chocolate with hints of tart cherry and an earthy menthol thing going on in the background. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a roasty chalky mouthfeel. Its a decent enough porter with a hint of funk that hides in the background but you know its there. I almost wanted more funk or none at all, its in a weird middle ground.

Grape & Gourmet, Virginia Beach 11.2oz ($5ish): Pours a massive gusher. I had to sucks on the bottle for about 5 minutes before I was able to properly pour it. The lack of proper glassware only made things worse. That being said, it was not an unpleasurable suck. Pours a crazy brownish head with a dark brown body. Aroma is sourness, roasted malt, and chocolate. Taste is much the same. It is kind of like a doppelbock with sour malt, which is what I thought this was until I found out about the Brett. Personally, I liked this much more than many of the American sour stouts. Interesting and unique.

On tap. Pours a near clear dark brown with a grayish brown head that dissipates completely. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts and dark bread with a hint of dark fruit and earthiness. Flavor is similar with roast and dark grains yup front with a bit of earthiness and a dry finish.

Pours black into a stem glass. Huge mocha head with amazing retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Chocolate and sour pit fruit aromas. Thick with sweet milk chocolate upfront turning to funky brett in the middle before the lasting espresso finish.

33cl bottle pours a watery, opaque black with a very active, frothy, rocky tan head. Aroma is a interesting mix of dark malts, chocolate, toasted bread, wood pulp, dandelions, dusty rafters. Flavor is similar, chocolate, dark whole grain bread, stale malts, yeast, bitter greens like arugula, leafy veg. The finish is dry, medium bodied and has a lasting chocolate roastiness. It’s an infected porter, not much else to say. It’s good, but I wouldn’t seek this out again.
