9th January 2014
Opaque dark brown beer, very small pale tan head. Both the beer and the head have an unusual pinky - peach hue! Palate is light and dry with modest fine carbonation. Mild dark malts. A very complex tang resolves in to dark chocolate, dark fruits and a little cognac. Light spice and more tangy fruits, Light dry finish. Tasty and unusual and the best Christmas 2013 beer I’ve had so far!

Bottle picked at home in London - up from the brewery. Pours clear, rich brown with a creamy beige head. The nose has some dark berries, hints of doughy brown bread and tart cherries. Medium sweet flavor with some tangy cherries, milk chocolate, decent tang, some wet wood, earth. Medium to full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Somewhat drying to finish, moderately tannic, plenty of tangy cherries, dusty cocoa, roasted malts. Lots going, for sure. Niclely balanced, though. Good complexity. Very solid.

Bottle from the brewery. Black pour with a rose coloured head. Aromas of cherry skins, sweet spice, raisin and strawberry. Sweet spice flavours with licorice, soy sauce, sultana and tobacco. Quite a nutty taste too. Spicy-sour warming finish. Interesting.

Bottle from the brewery via my mate Westy. Deep purple. Purple tinged, thin, tan head. Looks boss. Aroma is morello cherry, vanilla, dark chocolate, cherry crumble, cinnamon in there too. Taste is sweet, then sour, then dry and lightly bitter. Palate is full bodied, with an astringent, long, dry finish. Very Christmassy!

Bottle - black/dark brown pour with a medium sized tan head. Malty sweet, slight roasted, Christmas cake like, some syrup, brown sugar, dark berry fruits and prominent spices. Lovely.

Bottle at home, thanks to L-Dog the muel (says J-Dog!), 18/12/13. Pitch black with a big old tan head - this one is looking the bollocks! Nose is berry fruits, earthy cocoa, light spice, fig roll, touch of brett, roast coffee, faint smoke, light minerals. Taste comprises dark berry fruits, lightly soured berries, lactic tang, subtle brett notes, bitter chocolate, light roast, soured blueberries. Medium bodied with a little oomph, fine carbonation, drying conclusion with tangy tartened berry fruits. Decent - lots of stuff going off here, something a little different!

Bottle from the Partyzan Brauhaus, thanks to L-Dogg for picking this sucker up for me. It pours darkest ruby brown with a thick, seductive tan head. The nose is roasted malt, rich coffee, earth, cocoa, toast, wood, spice and light smoke. The taste is bitter-sweet, rich roast, toast, coffee, warming alcohol, chewy malt, spice, tart berry, vinous, earth, Vimto, some acidity and charred wood with a dry, earthy finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. A roller-coaster ride of flavours. Great depth to it. Big, ballsy and flavoursome. I am interested to see how this develops with time. At the moment the it is perhaps a touch unbalanced, but a very enjoyable drink nonetheless.
