Cask at Egham Beer Fest. Aroma is chocolatey and malty. Murky dark brown. Frothy beige head. Coffee bitterness and burnt caramel. Medium bodied. Oily. Average carbonation. Long astringent finish. Enjoyable stuff.

On keg at Firkin Alehouse Folkestone. Black beer lasting beige head. A lot drier than I thought it would be. dark chocolate flavour. some dryness on the finish. some whisky character perhaps. Good. worth another half pint.

Craft Clerkenwell. Cask. Clear deep red - brown beer, no head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, no roast. A little unsweet dark chocolate. Modest lactose. A touch of sweetish dark fruits. Light finish brings mild coffee. Pretty drinkable.

Cask at CBC Clerko, 03/06/15. Dark mahogany brown with a decent light tan covering. Nose is light smoke, rich roast, charr, dark fruit, faint lactic tones, woody. Taste comprises liquorice, spice, dark malt, toffee, musty tones, dark fruit rinds. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying close with a lick of booze. Ok stout.

Cask at CBC Clerkenwell - London. Pours clear reddish brown with a frothy beige head. Ashy roasted malt aroma with a good hit of sugary chocolate, dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with sugary burnt malts, cocoa, scorched earth, leathery dried fruits. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with plenty of burnt wood, earthy bitterness, coal. A little astringent in the aftertaste. So so.

Cask at Craft. It pours near black with a beige head. The nose is sweet, milk, creamy, chocolate, charry roast and light dark tangy malt. The taste is bitter, charred wood, ashy, big astringency, cocoa, tangy dark fruits, berry yoghurt, leather and piney varnish with a very dry ashy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Very dry and ashy. Not overly drinkable. Doesn’t do it for me.

Cask, gravity at Banbury Beer Festival, Thursday 7th May 2015 I had this as my last beer of the night and let’s put it this way I’d had a few by this point and I had a thick head the following day. Pours black with a smattering of bubbles atop. Quite full on with lactic notes, a touch of fruit, maybe not as roasty as some, but I like it. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.7
