Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Tom L. Black. Big peat aroma, alcohol, chocolate. Sweet flavor, smoky, peaty, whiskey, roast, boozy, coffee, some chocolate, wood. OK, but kinda over the top.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear black with a warm burgundy glow and a small, beige head. Nose is extreme peat, so loaded with iodine and tar that it’s beyound belief. Body is light, bordering thin, lowish carbonation, roast, ashes, iodine and tar - yet milder than the aroma. Some underlying chocolate. Sorry, can’t help it - peat is simply not my thing. 311016

Bottle shared at the ’Beers of London’ Tasting MkII, Bespin Cloud City - Hyde Park zone, thanks to KennyBob 11/02/15. Bottle #544. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a moderate tan covering that clears to a swirl/edgework. Nose is big peated malt, Bandaid, smoke, toffee, dark fruit, malt. Taste comprises toffee, mineral notes, brown sugar, caramel, spice, sweet tones, lighter peat effect than on the aroma but still well evident. Medium + body, fine carbonatin, semi drying close. Ok peated impy, hides the ABV well but lacks depth.

Bottleshare at Leighton’s flat. Opaque dark brown beer, good bubbly pale tan head. Mild peaty nose. Smooth palate, semi dry. Mild fine carbonation, Smooth dry malts. Dry spice. Bitterish wood and dark chocolate. The TCP is under control here. Light dry finish with TCP lingering on. Not bad for a peated Impy and it hides the abv well.

Lingering charred wood. Ok.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Kenneth. Pours deep brown-black with a foamy beige head. The nose is rife with with peat, earth, dry cocoa - but mostly peat. Medium sweet flavor with further rich and punchy peat character, robust dark chocolate, burnt wood. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly drying finish with a bit of warmth, lingering peat, dry roast, cocoa, dusty earth, dried dark fruits. Very nice.

Bottle #544 thanks to Kenny. It pours dark brown with a tiny tan head. The nose is rich, medicinal, smoked peat, sweet Islay whisky, oily, TCP, light roast and cocoa. The taste is bitter-sweet, charred stuff, medicinal, peppery spice, burnt toffee, dried fruits, fruit cake and some warming alcohol with a dry, medicinal finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Great aroma to it. Not as much depth as I had hoped, but solid enough. Decent.

Had this in bottle at Bracelands Campsite, nr Coleford, Forest of Dean, Glos, Saturday 6th September 2014 Pours pitch black with tan head. The nose is full on elastoplast & germolene and this also shows rather to brazenly in the mouth, I have never been a fan of Islay aged stouts and this is no exception. Some ashy flavours very roasty burnt finish. Not my thing. A4 A5 T3 P3 Ov7 2.2
