This Spiced IPA is a collaboration between Beavertown's founder Logan and super chef Richard Turner.

The inspiration for Canned Rations came from Logan & Richard pouring over Richard's new beef book, PRIME. In it was a recipe derived from the British Army's ration pack curry, (a bastardised form of Indian cuisine tailored for delicate British palates). The idea for Canned Rations was born. A straight up trad British IPA malt bill, twisted up with Citra hops and infused with an array of Indian spices evocative of that most British of dishes. The curry.

Can from the brewery and drunk at home. Hazy amber colour lasting white head. Tropical hop fruit aroma. Touch of herb too. Good in the mouth. Herby tropical fruity ipa. Herb is just a little too dominant maybe but the base ipa is delicious.

Can at home sourced from HB&B. A translucent golden / orange coloured pour with a frothy white head. Aroma is nice mixed peach and tangerine, mellow spice, cardamon, soft bready malts. Flavour is composed of wheat, tangerine, mango, woody spicy, little pepper. Back of throat woody hop bitterness. lemon rind. Palate is medium bodied, frothy carbonation, to drying finish. For me this is closer to an ipa over a SHV. The spices are there, but the hops are a level above the spices.

330ml can. Murky orange with an off-white head. Aroma has lovely spices, mostly cardamom and cumin I think, can’t really pick out individual ones, herbal hops. Taste: mix of aforementioned spices, a bit gingery, herbal hops, some citrussy zest. Medium body and carbonation. Quite nice actually.

Can. Hazy gold - orange - gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and smooth, good fine carbonation. Smooth light malts, mild creamy sweetness. Good piney hops, well complimented by cardamon. Light smooth orangey hop complimented by smooth floral black pepper. Touch of lemon. Trace of mango. Smooth finish. Nicely done. It’s an IPA with good complimentary spice. Would have been easy to overdo this. Oh - and it’s an IPA.

Can at Beavertown. It pours hazy yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, fresh, juicy, yellow plum, biscuit, dull spice, cinnamon, nutmeg and white pepper. The taste is crisp, dry, soft, bready, spice, fresh, white bread, festive spice and chalk wit’s drying finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not too spicy. Not bad.

Can shared at Beavertown. Pours hazy gold with a creamy, white head. Certainly some spices in the nose, zesty citrus. Light-medium sweet flavour with some herbal hops, pine needles, citrus peel. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with more zesty citrus, rindy bitterness, some pale bread. Fun stuff, but would probably be better without the herbs.
