We think the russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

I got this bottle in a trade with russpowell. Thanks Russ!

My first beer from this brewery:

A very nice pour. A really thick looking pitch black brew with a 1 finger head of tan foam. Some good sticky lacing here and the head retention is better than average for the style.

Taking a few whiffs, the smell is on the light side but I get some notes of coffee, dark fruit, and a bit of caramel malt. Sweetish overall.

First sip and man, nice complexity going on here. Rich dark chocolate flavours are the first thing I notice and then the coffee shows itself along with some plum and toffee. And wow, the mouthfeel is superbly thick and the carbonation is livelier than I thought it would be but it works really well so no complaint here.

Further sips in and I notice a slight tartness coming from the hops and it does a nice job in complimenting the other flavours. And the 9%abv? I'm trying hard to find it but I can't say I can. It's *very* well hidden. The finish is really tasty with notes of bitter chocolate and a light hoppiness. This is a damn good example of the style and the next time I visit Colorado, I'm going to pick up some. It *is* that damn good, imho!

Bottle with expiry date 13.01.20. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is chocolate, some coffee, some hops. Medium bitterness. Smooth, medium carbonation - a bit too high for a RIS. Very good.

Appearance: Oily black colour, tiny layer of cappuccino coloured head. Some yeast residue. Aroma: complex and very interesting, spicy, dark malts, really roasty with notes of espresso, maybe some lactose, berry notes. Flavour: oily thick, hoppy herbal mouthfeel, very intense flavour, quite boozy, malty, intense roast and espresso flavour, treacle and sweet, spicy and very hoppy, medium bitterness, grassy and earthy hops flavours, hints of berries, long finish which is a combination of grassy hops and intense espresso. Brilliant impy, one of the best I’ve had.
