Dark amber with light brown head - Malt aroma with a dark fruity woody aroma as well - Malt body with a dark fruity flavour that has some wood tones in the back - The malt and dark fruity flavours goes into the finish with some wood notes - This was good with a well hidden alcohol

Note oxydée le tout collant aux lèvres.

Clear amber beer, a few cream colour bubbles. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Soft fluffy malts belie the abv weight. Soft creamy malts. Quite a bitter caramel, softens as the beer has a chance to breathe. Soft fruity cognac. Little wet wood. Softer caramel on the finish along with bruised citrus and rich dried fruits. Light but developing salted caramel. This was wonky and sharp when first opened, made me wince. Ten minutes of breathing have utterly transformed this one in to the smooth sumptuous treat that it is. Lovely and a complete contrast to the red wine ba abortion that I had the misfortune to try before this. Quite a contrast!

Bottle from BBP. Dark caramel with a medium head. Aroma of dark fruit and nuts. Very lively, this one literally hit me in the eye when opening the bottle. Flavour of raisins and dry red wine. Very dry, tart fruit syrup, heavy Belgian mouth. Warm alco fruit finish.

25cl bottle (bottled 15/10/2018) from the brewery. F: thin film, dark tan, quick gone to some bubbles. C: deep dark brown, hazy, opaque. A: rich malty, red wine, woody, bit cognac, dried fruits, caramel, raisins, bit Porto wine, cherry, almost complex. T: rich malty base, woody, caramel, red wine touch, raisins, dried fruits, plums, red fruits, toffee, not so complex as I expected from aroma and bit more sweet yet still very nice sipper, low carbonation, enjoyed.

Barleywine aged for a year and a half in cognac barrels, in the limited barrel series by BBP. Thanks tderoeck for sharing. Egg-white, pale yellowish beige head, thin and open with ‘veils’ of greyish foam remaining in the middle, misty mahogany brown robe with ruddy-coppery hue. Candied, perfumey, very inviting aroma of candied fig, plum wine, melting caramel, brown bread, toffee, clear cognac, wood ‘vanilla’, sweetbread, raisins, Parfait Amour liqueur, brownies. Fruity onset, lots of candied fig, cherry and plum aspects, soft carb, full and soft, ‘fluffy’ mouthfeel though perhaps less vinous than I tend to expect from a barleywine, but pleasant all the same; full toffeeish maltiness, sweet with caramelly edges, bready, with lingering sugary sweetness leading to a warming finish in which toasty bitterish notes go alongside woody tannins (drying a bit and releasing lovely vanilla-ish aspects retronasally), some clove-like and estery-fruity yeasty notes, lingering breadiness and of course the expected afterglow of warming, obviously very cognac-flavoured alcohol, while everything remains notably sweet. Sweet English style barleywine – complex and desserty, but also too yeasty for the intended style and in that sense very quadrupel-like as well. Would happily revisit – or age.

Little cloudy dark reddish brown beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: pretty yeasty, green apples, soft roast, fruity, lots of yeast esters. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: pretty roasted, sweet and sugary, some banana, bit oxidized, malty, grains. Aftertaste: sugary, sticky caramel, little bitter, malty, some banana, oxidized, bit spicy, herbal, nice one!
