As projects go, beer and chocolate is probably about as good as it gets. The head on collision of a famous British beer maker with an innovative chocolate maker has been as exciting as it has been rewarding with results that taste as good as the pedigree should suggest. We think of this creation as a well balanced and fulfilling drink with a hint of chocolate that is both unexpected and beautifully complimentary.

Bottle shared at Chrisso’s May 2014 tasting 25/05/2014. Thanks to Andy (tabamatu) for this rarety. Aroma is powdered chocolate, coco powder and a touch dry and earthy. Golden clear coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Flavour is berry, powdered coco, nutty malts. Quite artifically and not much lager quality, but not terrible.

Bottle split at JF’s, thanks to he, 11/09/14. Clear golden with a decent off white covering that dissipates then retains. Nose is chocolate malt, light florals, honey. Taste comprises more honey, sweetish licks, Coco Pops, candied sugars, chocolate malt. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok novelty affair, does what it says on the tin, wouldn’t be rushing back for it but pleasant enough. Great trick to play on the brain - you just don’t expect the chocolate flavours from a golden beer!

33cl bottle from the brewery. A still and lifeless amber pour with absolutely no head or carbonation; coca aroma; curious taste with some grainy malts and dessert chocolate; and a long dessert chocolate finish. This doesn’t quite work for me.

Tasting at the ever gracious ChrisO’s. Clear bright pale gold beer, tidy white head. Palate is light and a little dry, fine carbonation. Candy sherbet and a little milk chocolate. Light floralness, getting toward perfumey. Light crisp finish. Weird but entertaining and tasty.

500ml bottle @ Chriso May 14 tasting. Pours gold, milk cocoa aroma with strange sweet bubblegum choc taste crossed with a lagery mouthfeel. A bit odd.

Bottle thanks to Andy. It pours sweet, milk chocolate, chalky and cheap aftershave. The taste is crisp, lagerish, chalky, dull milk chocolate, grainy, grass and hay with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. A bit Jeckyl and Hyde. Very sweet chocolate on the nose and the taste not so much so. Not too bad.
