Bottle at the restaurant ’down the road’ from the Struise brewery. Hazy dark gold beer. Softish semi dry palate. Aromatic malts. Spice. A little bitterish hop coming through towards the semi dry finish. Fine.

*Old rating. Best before June 2012. The beer is yeasty with hints of fruits and oranges. Easy to drink with a nice Belgian yeast profile. Smooth fruity in the aftertaste.

Bottle (a few years old) at home. Can’t remember where I got this sucker... It pours clear gold with a thick white head. The nose is mostly of dough with sweet apple pie, hay and light toast. The taste is sweetish, doughy, apple, melon, some astringency, touch of spice and light lemon maybe......dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not a whole lot going on, but what there is ain’t great. A very ho hum Belgian ale...

2008 Vintage bottle @ In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst during the Tour De Geuze. Pours a murky, very hazy orange with a greyish white head, only on the sides. Smell is dusty cellar, oxidized, murky, lightly rotting, very overripe dark fruit, dust, lightly watery,… Taste I surprisingly good, sweet mouldy, sugar, light overripe fruits, oxidation, rather sweet still, dying thick yeast, sweet spices,… Little carbonation but aptly fuller body. Obviously this beer cannot survive for long but good cellqring kept this drinkable and quite enjoyable.

blond/ orange colour, less foam than the usual. tastes like a typical belgian blond, onley a little more sweetness ( white sugar type) . very very little aftertaste, as i’m pleased by the struise also the right amount of gas. there is exactley what you need in a beer, and not so much it destroys your taste. good beer, if outside the struise. but for them i’d expected more complexity...
