A sophisticated beer for the advanced connoisseur. It was once brewed by the English as a gift for the Russian tsarina. Today craft brewers all over the world enjoy this style because it allows them to live out all their creativity. We do this by stuffing our Imperial Stout with hops and storing it in barriques for six months before bottling it.

Vanilla and herbs, especially thyme, mingle. A gentle oily impression is followed by pine and a reoccurring herbal bouquet of thyme. The finish is soft but dry with lingering aromas of wood and black pepper.

On tap at Brauhaus Lemke am Alex, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is quite rich, with lots of whiskey barrels, wood, and medium roast. Flavour is complex, with lots of whiskey barrels, plenty of wood, and moderate-to-heavy roasted malt. Slight amount of molasses-like sweetness. The whiskey and wood character really shines. Excellent.

Bottle at home on 24th July 2019 from Lemke am Hackescher Markt. Pours a deep sepia brown with yellow-brown spot-lacing foam. Rich and intense aroma of roasted malts and cherry fruits. Nutty roast malts, bitter chocolate and a ‘rum and raisin’ blend in-mouth. Lasting roasty finish. Full bodied with an engaging texture. Exquisite, and superbly crafted.

Bottle. A- Tart cherry, oak, mild booze. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Mild whisky, oak, tannins, cocoa, red wine. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- The barrel aging does at a bit of sour tartness but overall seems to help the beer. A tiny bit boozy but well rounded. Nice.

Bottle from Lemke in Berlin. Dark brown with a nice fine head. Soy aroma, almost sour. Flavor is (of course) sweet, but a really complex and interesting mix of roasty malts, light soy, sweetness, a bit of barrique wood flavor.

Dark brown. Aroma is pecanut chocolate roast cocoa coconut. Taste is heavy sweet and roasty umami everything. A bit too cloying. Not so drinkable. Heavy.
