Bouteille 341ml. (2005)

Originally rated January 2006. Pours a hazy caramel-orange colour with a milky head. Decent lace and low retention. Nice coat of 2mm over the brew though. The nose is not that pleasant. The same sourness that I found in many other beer Schoune make. Same for the taste... is it outdated, or the yeast they use ? Which ever one, I am not a fan of it.

3rd beer from this brewery, and a lot better. Bought xmas market in Belgium. Pours amber with white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, light yeasty nose with a chestnuts like aroma. Taste, caramel malts, light cocoa and light dark fruits, remains light in body and crisp finish.

Pale amber-orange with a good, very fine & dense, off-white ehad. Some sort of spiciness, faint tobacco, peat (turf) - lending it a whiskymalt streak - and faint greenery. Soft-sweet taste, nearly bready, nearly not spicey; taste falling away fast, just a little fruit remaining (like a watery strawberry ester). Watery MF, light... de Noël ??? Whatever it is, it is not what I’d call a holiday special.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dark beige color ale with a foamy slightly off-white head with average retention. Aroma of weak malt with some funky Belgian yeast. Taste is a mix between some dry malt with some sour notes (probably slightly infected) and a weird funky finish. Body is above average with some average carbonation. This is an interesting beer from a so-so brewer but it is generally lacking in character to make this worthwhile.

2005 bottle, Christmas in April....Orange-auburn-cherry colored beer, off-white head, initially medium, with moderate retention. Sediment at the bottom of bottle. Little aroma, even when sticking my nose in to the snifter. Raspberries?, Belgian yeast?, maybe cinnamon.....Flavor really speaks to why there is no aroma. Starts out with some lightly sweet malt, and sugar BUT, almost instantly cardboard begins coating the palate, drying out everything, killing all of the flavor. Water and cardboard, albeit not unpleasant, through the middle. Finishes with some iron, weakly toasted grains and burnt cinnamon toast (but mostly water). HIGHLY/FULLY attenuated. Almost all water. What are they trying to do here???

Sickly hazy dark gold with a small white head. Light aroma of coriander, band-aid and vinegar. Light malts with spiced notes but no body. Sweet cloying finish.
