A remarkably drinkable Double IPA that pays tribute to one of Mother Nature’s finest creations, as several hop varietals combine for massive aromas of tropical fruit, citrus and pine. A mild caramel malt character and dry finish provide balance.

Bottle from Bells brewery, Kalamazoo. Some balance here with light to medium malt sweetness. Some citrus flavor from the hops, and dry grass. Lightly bitter finish. It is less sweet and less bitter than many double ipas.

Crystal clear copper and amber coloured body with a small, one to two centimetre tall tan head that fades quite quickly. Aroma of caramel, toffee, earth, light grain and a dose of very light hops noticeable with some alcohol around the edges near the end. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal qualities at first with a bigger malty flavour than hops with some light alcohol and perfumey bite showing some light alcohol and a dose of sugars from honey that end with more malts than hops somehow. Aftertaste shows some light hops without any bitterness at all balanced almost flawlessly by the hops, but mellowed out by the subdued and grassy malt and showing only a touch of alcohol near the end - quite easy to drink throughout without any lingering hops nor alcohol. Overall, a nice and subdued beer that doesn't show much alcohol nor hops to even be considering this as an Imperial IPA or IPA of any type, actually. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased yesterday at Knightly Spirits in Orlando (Orange Blossom Trail), Florida on 05-May-2018 for US$2,84 sampled in my hotel room here in Orlando, Florida on 06-May-2018.

Not a bad DIPA, just a bit nondescript, with strong notes of orange, pineapple, and pine but lacking a solid malt base or really anything to differentiate it from the neverending DIPA glut in the market. Drinkable, yes, but I won't remember a damn thing about it other than, eh, pretty good, and eh, a little harsh. (This beer's rather rough, spiky and boozy beyond what an 8% DIPA should be.) Pretty much the definition of a 3.5 beer.

I got this bottle in a trade with joe1510. Thanks Joe!
This pours a hazy ruby red with a good 1 finger head of foam. Plenty of lacing. Excellent head retention.
The smell is nicely balanced. Lots of citrus and tropical fruit for bitterness, an ample amount of caramel sweetness. If this tastes as good as it smells, I'm in for a treat.
The taste has big hoppiness with tropical fruitiness and some citrus and a good sweet malt flavour that does some good balancing; not as balanced as the nose suggested but it's far from being one dimensional.
The mouthfeel is just over on to the medium side, the carbonation is just under medium, and it finishes with a definite bitter bite from whatever tropical fruit flavour is the cause. Nice and it's a pretty easy drinker for the style.

Bottle shared. Thanks Jay! Pours a honey gold color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Orange and juicy citrus nose with some light tangerine and jammy marmalade notes. Balanced on the palate, syrupy body with honey and orange with a touch of resin. Classic midwest style with lot’s of balance but maybe a touch brighter than the usual from that region. Bitter finish but balanced out with nice malt sweetness. Well made.

Bottled 6/16/16, drunk 8/31/16.
Peachy-gold with a light auburn tint, good clarity, sediment left behind and a light beige head atop showing modest retention.
I’d say the tropical fruits are much less massive than are the standard citrus and light pine notes. Very much like the Be Hoppier I just had, it’s a very straightforward West Coast DIPA, with basic grapefruit, orange, lemon and pine and a little bit of pineapple/peach showing up. Honey-caramel in the background from the malts, adds a touch of balance and it’s not overly boozy, but still a bit more resinous than I’d prefer.
Again, yawn, yes, there is the citrus, light caramel and biscuit from the malts, and pine and grapefruit resin lingering. Fluffy carbonation, good attenuation, some minor tropical fruit notes. Kind of like an Oracle-light, though without the extreme malt softness/richness of that one.

Beer and Smoke, Brooklyn bottle: pours copper with a white head. Aroma is sugary and a bit malty, with notes of citrus and tropical fruit. Pretty light for a DIPA.
