Bottle, 0.5l. Hazy brown pour with slight red hue. Two finger creamy beige head, good retention and lacing. Nose is roasty, smoked bacon. Hints of coffee. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Smooth on the palate, creamy texture. Mildly bitter, some fruity sour notes. Smoked bacon aroma takes the front row, but underneath lie the usual weizen notes of wheat, cloves and banana. Roasted, charred. Woody. A bit dry aftertaste. Overall, very smooth and nicely balanced. Enjoyable brew.

On tap at captain cook östersund. A simply gorgeous smell of bacon that reminds me of my first ever wheat beer. Quite an easyfinish to this, not too smoked, not too wheat. All round enjoyment really.

Birthday bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker; thanks to Anke & family!
Best before: January 2017.
Back in September 2012, I travelled to the nice, small city of Bamberg in Bavaria for an Erasmus programme of 4 months. I soon heard that Bamberg had - for its size a staggering - nine breweries. The real talk of the town of those was Schlenkerla, which brewed a beer 'that smelt of sausage'. Apparently, one had to drink it six times before being able to appreciate it. At that time I was a beer lover but not yet a beer rater, so I let that cup pass... Finally, here it is, for a first real rating. Pours cloudy dark brown with a thinning, off-white head. The aroma contains smoked ham & sausage, roasted malt, bacon, smoke & wood, some hops & wheat. It tastes light malty sweet and light (smoky/meaty) umami at first, then light to medium hoppy bitter into the smoky finish. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Must have suffered from expiration a bit but it was still enjoyable - and unique. However, when I visit Bamberg again I must drink it fresh from tap and rerate.

boca 0,5L - kupljena u Vrutku...napokon i weizen koji je dimljen...malo je puniji i kremastiji od marzena, da je malo više arome dima bio bi još bolji

500 ml bottle. Deep copper brown color. Small creamy tan head. Big smoky malt nose. Tart, smoky wheat malt flavor. Light cocoa notes in middle. Not your typical German Weizen. Complex and flavorful with campfire notes. Slightly salty, charred wood finish.
