Shared bottle on 24th Aug 2014 at the Midlands Meet. Poured deep brown/black with a tan coloured head. Floral hop nose, with an over toasted bread maltiness. The taste left the floral hops behind in the aroma and turned them into a more roasted pine flavour that sat nicely with the maltiness that ruled the sweet roasted taste. Not great, but I could easily had more if it had been available on the day.

Bottle @ Midlands Bottle Share, Aug 14, at Richies Hop Palace. Pours black with big foamy tan head and light roast aroma. Complex hop character with earthy roasted elements and an unwelcome sourness. Perhaps a bit unbalanced.

Bottle split at the Jack is back tasting, from an IP trade with Rich the Villain, 06/03/14. Light black with a good sized tan covering that retains well. Nose carries roasty notes, light spice, tangy tropicals, bitter grapefruit, liqourice, earthy hops at the rear. Taste comprises bitter roast, mineral bite, spice, bitter grapefruit, tropicana. Medium bodied, fine catbonation, semi drying close. Decent CDA.

Jack is back tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to our Colin. Opaque dark brown beer, tiny pale tan head. Palate is light and airy and dry. Fine carbonation. Light touch of dark malts but they do bring traces of roast bitterness and a little coffee. Light piney hops with a whisper of citrus. Finishes dry and slighly bitter. Not bad but wants more ooomph.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin, Junior CDA Tracker. Pours clear brown with a frothy tan head. Floral nose, some burnt pine, toasted malts. Light sweet flavor, lots of minerals, burnt pine, burnt toast. Light bodied with average carbonation. Heavy bitter finish, lots more burnt pine, minerals, dry toasted bread. Unbalanced, aggressive.

Bottle at Bruce’s. It pours deep ruby brown with a thick beige head. The nose is funky, earthy, cocoa, roasty, pine, varnish, hop sack, pungent and toast. The taste is dry, bitter, roast, dark fruit, berry, mild acidity, cocoa, cola and earth with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Alright.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy off white head. The aroma is roasted malt with grassy hops. The flavour is medium bitter with a dry spice pepper liqourice palate. Really refreshing. A superb black IPA.
