In cask form this beer is 4.4% and I have drank it at various festivals over the years. This review is of two pints drank in the Weatherspoon’s ’Jewel of the Severn’ in Bridgnorth, Shropshire on the 5th April 2007.. Mid copper colour with a good off white head, this beer suits a pint glass, which is what I drank it out of. Malts and a wiff of citrus and a floral aroma from both pints. Creamy texture and taste, with a bitterness that gives the beer a little bit of tartness. The flavours stay and the creaminess helps to ensure the beer sticks around in thethroat. Very drinkable beer, try it if you see it on cask.

[handpull at Hope Tap, Reading] 4.4% ABV when I had it too - which correlates with brewers website. Chestnut colour with a thin, lasting, soap-sud like head. Initially bitter, then treacle, earth, autumn leaves and some honey. Aftertaste bittersweet with some earth & treacle; very sticky mouthfeel. Tastes stronger than ABV would suggest. An enjoyable pint, but stickiness would mean you wouldn’t want too much.

(Cask at Black Friar, Blackfriars, London, 26 April 2008. 4,4% abv) Chestnut colour with brief, off-white head. Malty, nutty nose with notes of caramel, chocolate and hints of sulphur. Malty, nutty taste with toffee, milk chocolate and a short earthy bitterness in the finish. Malt sweetness throughout. Decent but hardly exciting.

From cask at Charlies, thanks to Ungstrup. Pours clear and golden orange with little head. Aroma is fresh and fruity. Slight herbal to acidic/citric aroma. Sweet, peachy and mellow malty flavour. Nice bitterness in the finish. Solid to nice brew and fresh.

Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. A hazy dark golden beer with a thick beige head. The aroma is sweet and very fruity and hoppy. The flavor is sweet with notes of grass, pine needles, and citrus - a lovely hoppy note, leading to a dry bitter finish. The body is a bit thin. Lovely session beer.

Cask gravity at The George, Bethersden, Summer BF 2006. Amber colour, slightly hazy. No head. Sweetish malt/hop aroma. More fruity malt than hop. Not overly impressed. Bit of rubber on the malt. Poor bitter, slightly citric/lemoney and edgey. 2.4/5 Re-rate, cask handpull at County Hotel, JDW, Ashford 26/1/07 Amber, thin off white head. Nettle/herb/earthy hop aroma, some yeast. Some fruity malt in mouth, battles the slightly eggy yeast. A little hard juiciness before developing into a lemon wine gummy juicy finish with an ultimately dry tingly hop finish.
