Brewed to remember Catherine (the tragic queen, wife of Henry VIII) passing through Ampthill on her last journey.

A beautiful tangy citrus beer with a lingering bitter finish.

Handpull cask at the Elm Tree. Dark gold or honey brown. Take your pick. Not quite clear. Smells of TCP and fresh grass. Taste is sweet and herbal with notes of bay and caramel. Smooth finish. Good but odd. More odd than good.

Cask, gravity dispensed, at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Golden amber with a ring of translucent head; floral aroma; soft and fruity in the mouth, with apples and pear flavours; then some warmth and a sustained, gentle, earthy, bitterness to finish. Not bad.

[Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading] Amber with a moderate white head. Some florals, some lemon, some caramel, but it’s all rather vague, bland and messy. A half-hearted attempt at a beer.
