Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse.
Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Tom L. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, malt, caramel, a licorice note, mild spiciness and a bit of alcohol. Sweet flavor, a bit sourish, with malt, lots of dark fruits, chocolate, caramel and a slightly alcoholic finish. Medium to full-bodied, kinda silky.

[Thanks to fiulijn]. Bottle. All aroma when opened with notes of caramel and toffee. Very dark brown colour with a beige and quickly diminishing head. Aroma has notes of red fruits, slightly sweet, no cloying, notes of coffee, toffee and caramel. Flavor is slightly sweet at the beginning with aa good maltiness, notes of toffee and caramel with yeasty and spiced hints, also chocolate plumbcake are present.. The final is slightly bittery wit ripe fruits and spices. Dense and creamy on palate with hints of alcohol that is hidden by caramel.

22/11/2013 Bir&Fud Bottega (375ml bottle). Bruna, intensa, schiuma color beige- cappuccino, abbastanza persistente. Al naso sentori di toffee, malto, caramello, legno, zucchero di canna, alcol, buona complessità. In bocca è dolce all’attacco, caramello, toffee, quindi vira su un finale leggermente amarognolo. Corpo medio-pieno, carbonazione medio-bassa. Ottima, ma mi aspettavo di più.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours deep brown with a small yellowish-beige head. The nose is earthy, fruity, jam, berry, dried fruits, toasted coconut and caramel. The taste is jammy fruits, berry, sherbet, blueberry, raspberry, candy, warming alcohol, toffee and nut. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Pretty juicy. Nice jammy character. Good depth and high drinkability for the style.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - this one I got at THE Kris Wines. Pours rich, amber-brown with a creamy tan head. Nose has dry fruits, some rich bread. Medium to big sweet flavor, brown sugar, toffee, cherries, hints of coffee and cocoa. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Mildly warming to finish, lots of ripe, dried fruits, dusty cocoa. Rich and pretty well balanced. Nice depth. Very drinkable.
