Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy coca cola brown pour with a creamy dark beige head, aroma has tart dark fruits with dark chocolate, taste has dark chocolate, tangy dark fruit, bitter coffee, quality creamy mouth-feel, very good.

Nearly, but not quite, reddish-black beer with practically no head in the case of this particular bottle. Smell is thick, chocolatey malt. Flavour is similar, though there’s initially a bit of a sweet, fruity hit. This soon dissipates leaving the earthy chocolate flavour. It’s quite mellow overall but distinct enough and very rich and tasty.

Bottle from Cornelius. Dark brown body with a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of chocolate cake, vanilla, earth and Weetos. Flavour is dry and rich - notes of dark chocolate, fig and dirt. Thin to medium texture with a watery texture. Flat carbonation. A bit odd to be honest...

(Draught at Craft Beer Co Covent Garden, London, 26 Apr 2015) Black colour with brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and a generous piney bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Solid and well made porter. Very nice.

Draft @ Tilquin English beer festival, 2015. Brune foncée, col blanc-cassé. Arôme malté, grillé, brûlé, léger rétro boisé - ajoutant une effluve épicée, houblonné reste plus modéré et un peu léger noble en rétro. Palais offre un profil solide au niveau des malts, plein de caramel, grillé, léger chocolaté avec un fini un peu sec.Amertume perce en retrait et reste dans une inspiration anglaise assez noble. Je n’ai pas spécialement trouvé grand chose dans le boisé, si c’est le cas ici.

Sampled draft as @ Tilquin English Beer Festival 2015. Dark amber, tanned head. Nose is umami, thin roast, cheap wood, cacao, thin, lightly herbal,… Taste is umami, herbal, cheap caca, cacao puffs, herbal,… Thin body, cheap wood. Decent but far from impressive, thin, herbal etc. Okay still for sure.

Sampled @ Tilquin English Beer Festival 2015 Trübe dunkel orangebraune Farbe, ordentliche beige Schaumkrone. Geruch nach viel Kaffee, bitter, Vanille. Geschmack nach bitteren Kaffeebohnen, bittere Schokolade, Vanille, Gut!

Taste: dark chocolate, coffee, bitter, charcoal, very hoppy, some caramel. Aftertaste: medicinal bitterness, some dark chocolate, coffee, hoppy.
