Cantillon Zwanze 2011 is the fourth release in the Zwanze series of beers. This series has been released every year since 2008, and beginning in 2011, with a coordinated celebration around the world at various beer bars, breweries, and restaurants. The 2011 edition is a recreation of Cantillon Pinot d'Aunis, using the same grapes, but this time, dry hopped with Brambling Cross hops. The grapes were provided by Olivier Lemasson at Les Vins Contés.

2014 Pineau d’Aunis.
Golden-cranberry with a pink-tinged head that is large and well-retained for the style.
Aw yes, that stinks very nicely. This is like the fresh Cantillons from 10 or so years ago that I used to drink so regularly (as opposed to it being impossible to find now). Just a lovely, sulfur-rich nose with tart, bright, brett and grape acids mixing very nicely together. No real acetic character and light lactic notes, with tons and tons of rich, leathery, horseblanket-like barnyard. Not as much fruit as many of the other grape lambics I’ve had, but still enough to add complexity. No alcohol or flaw.
Similar flavor, with a highly effervescent, well-attenuated, malt/wheat-soft palate, vivacious grape notes (piquant currant, cranberry, gooseberry) with tons of brett and lactic character and a moderately-strong sourness with tons of tartness lingering behind the teeth. Superb and elegant.

On tap at Birre Sotto l'Albero Macche pub in Rome-Italy. Pours cloudy ruby color, a bit dark. Punk irregular foamy head. Nose: strawberries, a bit acetic, vinegar hint, vinous a bit. Mouth: medium-low carbo, a bit of vinegar, peppery-mineral dry finish. Some mild feel of wild yeast. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(750ml bottle as Pineau d’Aunis @ Cantillon brewery, July 28 2015) Pours nearly clear deep pink with a whitish head. Aroma of red wine fruitiness, grape, plum and some berry blend. A real peppery, spicy herbal hop character, musty funk, some wood. Flavour has a nice acidic red grape tone, berry seeds, lots of peppery and spicy notes, dried herbs, some tannic barrel notes on the finish. Medium bodied with soft carb, this is complex and a gorgeous druiven lambic. My description doesn’t do it justice, but there’s a wonderful counterpoint between the fruit and the other components that elevates it above the other Cantillon wine grape versions I’ve had. Stunning.

Bottle at Cantillon. Almost clear deep ruby liquid with small to medium light pink head. Aroma of lemon, earthy funk, wood, mineral, apple skin and light grapes. Taste is dry and light to medium sour with notes of lemon, grapes and wood. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Really nice, a bit less sour and more funky and woody than Carignan.

Bottle at Cantillon, as Pineau D’Aunis. Pours hazy candy apple red, large creamy white pink head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is sweat socks, cheese, horse blanket. Flavor is dry, quite funky, musty, cheese, feet, grape skins. Medium light body, soft carbonation. Excellent.

Bottle at Cantillon as Pinaut d’Aunis. Clear light red with small pink head that leaves a nice ring of cute tiny bubbles. Red grapes, old strawberries, raspberry juice. Lots of wood, straw, funk, pee, chicory, bitter grape skins. Taste is medium sour with medium bitter finish. Light to medium bodied with soft sparkly carbonation. Nice stuff, pretty outspoken and not super fruity but it’s well balanced with the lambic. Great.

Bottle at Cantillon 14th April 2015. Pours clear and a beautiful reddish pink, the aroma is vinous, hay, fruit, hops, complex. Taste is full, vinous fruit, some farmyard undertones, balanced not too astringent, yeast, long lingering bitter sour finish. Excellent beer
