The most refreshing dark beer you could ever imagine this side of Dublin! Low alcohol and roasted barley keep it clean and flavorful. The subtle earthiness of European hops harmonize with the roasted barley to offer a whiff of peat. Served with the classic nitrogen pour, Donnybrook delivers an impressive head and silken body of a classic stout.

Sam Adams Lager glass pour at Jet Rock in the Philadelphia Airport. Pour is nitro, opaque black brown, with a creamy one inch white head that has perfect retention. Aroma is roast malt, along with a vanilla sweetness, and a touch of pine. Taste is roast up front, dry, moving to a bitter chocolate near the end. Very crisp finish. Palate is light bodied, nitro silky, with the crisp and clean finish. Well constructed stout.

Dark, creamy, and lightly roasted. Has slight notes of cocoa, molasses, and some earthiness. A real easy session brew and excellent alternative to Guinness. I enjoyed it greatly.

Tap at Angels and Kings. Pours dark brown, murky, with a nitrous, dense and creamy tan head. Pleasant aroma of dark, roasted malts and light cocoa. Mildly sweet flavor, with a nice, roasty character. Some bitterness further dries out what is already a dry experience. Medium bodied with soft, extremely fine carbonation. Very creamy and velvety. At 3.7%, this is a miraculously tasty beer and an absolute delight to the sessioner in all of us. It’s hard to believe this beer clocks in at just over a 3.

Pint at Angels and Kings, NYC ($6): I had somewhat high hopes for this beer and unfortunately, they were not delivered. Basically, it looks like a Guinness when it pours with a cascading head and all that. (The bar claimed this beer was better than Guinness) Anyway, there are some hop and roasted malts aromas with hints of chocolate, but unfortunately, the beer reminds me of Guinness out of a can... The body is thin. The flavor insubstantial. Ultimately, an all around disappointment. I still would say it is an above average beer, but it ain’t good enough.

Draft: Roasted barley malt and sourwood nose. Clear mahogany, firm medium tan head, good lacing. Dry malt, parsley, and mulberry flavor, very low intensity. Wonderfully creamy mouthfeel. Irish style stout with more of an emphasis on texture than flavor. Easy to drink.

Served on nitro at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a reddish brown color with a large tan head that lasts forever. Aroma of faint roasted malts and a bit of chocolate. The taste is bitter roasted malts, chocolate and a bit of smoke. Medium bodied. Fairly decent.

Tap at Trappeze, Athens GA Pours dark brown with thick mocha like nitro head Aroma was rather weak and watery with some malts for a charcoal nose. Taste, light, some roasted malts and thin touch of coffee with undertones of mocha with a lactose like palate. Overall mouthfeel was fluffy and silky/creamy with good nitro presence. Victory’s version of Guinness? dry finish, simple, light, too watery for my taste but very drinkable.
