What’s this? A British-style IPA named after the man who defeated His Majesty’s Royal Navy in the War of 1812? Consider this a bold, hoppy (and mildly ironic) plunder of war.

Bottle from Archer Liquors. Pours a very light copper with a good finely bubbled near-white head. The floral aroma is to die for. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is lots of floral/fruity hop. There’s some malt, but who cares. Seems to be something like peach/apricot and citrus. Finishes rather dry, and the fruity bitter stays through and on. Wish I lived near where this is retailed. With time a few hot bits pop up, but the fruit endures.

Nice slightly hazy golden coloured body with a nice copper tint and a full frothy off-white head atop the beer. Aroma of fresh grapefruit and herbal hops along with plentiful malt, sugars and even some vegetable smells. Medium-bodied; Chewy malty taste up front with a fair amount of hops followed by a strong bitterness and a nice hoppy kick along with some of the sugars. Aftertaste shows bitter hops & malt, pit fruits and some nuts. Overall, a decent IPA - more of an APA to me, but all-in-all a decent beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle (Bottle Reads: Best by 19 Sep 06) purchased at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York on 22 September 2006.

This IPA poured a golden yellow colour with a fast disipating head. To the nose there are scents of gin, hopps, grass and some citrus. First taste was smooth and bitter with very strong hopp flavours bordering on acidic. Tea flavours along with the hopps and juniper berries. Finish is bitter, and the palate is just the same. A hopp-heads delight!

Bottle. It looks straighforward good in the glass, maybe a bit dull somehow, but sure good, with its clear, golden body and an off-white cap. Hop dominates the aroma, with a good dash of pine, but there’s also maltyness. The flavor is even more on the hoppy side, quite fruity and very piney, leaving the malty flavors in the far back. That goes for the finish too, a long and bitter one. Full body. A lovely beer for a hophead, but maybe a one-dimentional. (071123)

Huge thanks to Degarth for giving me this beer and crizay for sending it south. Pours a clear deep gold with a faint hue of copper running up the center. The white head hung around for a while. The aroma is on the mild side with grapefruit to orange rind citrus hops with faint malt sweetness hiding out the back. A mouth full of this elixir yields a grapefruit and slightly under ripe orange hop bitterness with faint savory malt sweetness. By midway the hop flavor becomes increasingly more bitter as the malty sweetness wanes. This mostly citrus hop bitterness and residual malt sweetness ride the flavor experience straight into the after taste. Nice IPA.

Bottle: Poured an orangey color ale with a big foamy head with some good retention but low lacing. Aroma of bitter hops with no discernable citrus notes of floral notes. Taste is also dominated by bitter hops with a dry finish and some weak caramel malt. Body is about average with some good carbonation. Slightly below the standard for the style and not the best from this great brewery.

Clear yellow with some red. Hops, pine, and slightly sweet citrus aroma. Alcohol is well hidden under strong citrus and pine hops, and caramel malts. Finishes rather bitter and dry. Medium body. Very nice IPA, wish I had tried this one sooner.

12 oz bottle from Dansting. Pour is a clear yellow orange with a two inch white head and a fair amount of carbonation. Aroma is citrus (lemon and orange) hops. Taste is nice, citrus, nice full malt body and a great bitter hop finish. Would love to try this one fresh. Thanks Dan!

I got this beer via trade (thanks bunkypop) and really had no expectations. Maybe just another IPA I thought. I was sharing it with friends and they all took first sips and that immediately told me I was in for something special. The golden brew doesn’t erupt with hops in the nose, rather subtle be ever present notes of grapefruits, cottoncandy, apples and a touch of pine along with caramel malts. The first sip malts hit the front of the tounge and then the hops hit the back. Well balanced, grapefruit more present here, bitterness starts to show itself as I swill the beer around my mouth. Full bodied. Finishes dry, slightly warming (the alcohol % was a bit of a surprise) with moderate bitterness and lingering grapefruit after taste. Not going to knock you over, but just a nice session IPA, albeit very strong. Thanks again bunkypop. I am glad only shared two bottles of this. Still have several more in the fridge.
